MUMBAI (India CSR): Imagine a child struggling in school—not because of a lack of interest or effort, but simply because they cannot see the blackboard clearly. This silent challenge is the reality for millions of school children in India, affecting their learning, self-esteem, and future potential.

To address this critical issue, ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited has launched its latest CSR campaign film as part of its flagship initiative, ‘Caring Hands’. This program is dedicated to providing free eye check-ups and corrective eyewear to children across India, ensuring that no child’s education is compromised due to vision-related issues.

With an impactful reach of over 500,000 children across 2,000+ schools, Caring Hands stands as a beacon of change in pediatric eye care.

Bringing Vision to Learning: The Power of Early Intervention

Studies indicate that nearly 3.4 million children in India struggle with undiagnosed vision problems, many of which can be corrected with a simple pair of glasses. However, limited awareness and accessibility prevent children from receiving the care they need.

Through Caring Hands, ICICI Lombard’s volunteer-driven initiative offers:

  • Free eye screenings in schools across India.
  • Prescription eyeglasses for students in need, ensuring long-term support.
  • Awareness programs to educate parents and teachers about the importance of eye health.

This initiative ensures that children who once struggled can now read, write, and learn with confidence—a small yet powerful step towards a brighter future.

A Campaign Film That Speaks to the Heart

To amplify awareness, ICICI Lombard released a compelling campaign film that sheds light on the silent struggles of children with vision impairment.

The film follows the daily life of a young student, showcasing his challenges in the classroom—straining to read the blackboard, struggling to copy notes, and facing embarrassment when called upon by his teacher. The message is clear: good vision is essential for learning, confidence, and success.

Sheena Kapoor, Head of Marketing, Corporate Communications & CSR, ICICI Lombard, emphasized the deeper impact of this initiative:

“Caring Hands is more than just an eye check-up camp—it’s about bringing invisible struggles to light. The story of one child struggling to see represents millions across India. Through this film, we hope to spark a larger conversation on children’s eye health and inspire real change in this often-overlooked area.”

Employee Volunteering: Turning CSR into Personal Commitment

What makes Caring Hands truly unique is its 100% employee-led volunteering model. ICICI Lombard employees actively participate by:

  • Coordinating with schools to ensure maximum reach.
  • Partnering with ophthalmologists to provide expert screenings.
  • Distributing prescribed spectacles to children who need them.

This hands-on involvement transforms corporate social responsibility into personal social commitment, fostering a deep sense of pride and purpose among employees.

A Brighter Future, One Child at a Time

The impact of Caring Hands is far-reaching. Over the years, this initiative has:

  • Reached 500,000+ children across India.
  • Distributed thousands of free spectacles to children in need.
  • Raised awareness on pediatric eye care, encouraging early detection and treatment.

Through continued efforts, ICICI Lombard remains committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of background, can see the world—and their future—clearly.
