New Delhi: The south Indian state of Telangana which was carved out of Andhra Pradesh in 2014 has recorded more than 300% growth in the CSR fund allocated to the state over the 2014-19 even as its parent state struggled with a sluggish growth of 55 % during the same period.
The state of Telangana was created on June 2, 2014.
According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), the national average of CSR funding growth over the period of 2014-19 was recorded at 85%.
CSR funding: Telangana Vs Andhra Pradesh
While the state specific CSR fund in Telangana grew 313 % growth from Rs 102 Cr to Rs 422 Cr over the period of 2014-19, Andhra Pradesh witnessed just a 50% growth in the CSR funding during the same period.

Corporate interest more in the new state
During the reporting period, the corporate interest in the new state of Telangana also swelled much higher than Andhra Pradesh. Sample this:
In the year 2014-15, a total of 277 companies funded state-specific CSR programme in Andhra Pradesh. In 2018-19, the number of corporates participating in CSR funding in the state grew to to 526, a growth of close to 90 %.
During the same period, the state of Telangana witnessed a growth of 173 % in the number of corporates funding CSR projects in the state. As per the MCA data, the number of companies funding CSR projects in Telangana increased to 684 in 2018-19 as compared to only 250 companies in 2014-15.
Education, Health Care remain top on CSR agenda; Huge disparity in funding pattern
A deeper analysis into the CSR spent on different development sectors in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh also suggests that Education and Healthcare continue to be in the top CSR priority for companies in the two states but the funding pattern varied significantly in the two sectors.
Though the health sector witnessed a growth in CSR funding for both the states, the funding to the education sector paints an entirely different picture.

For example, the state of Telangana witnessed the CSR fund for Health sector growing from Rs 21.51 Cr to Rs 49.19 Cr in 2018-19. Similarly, for Andhra Pradesh also, health sector funding grew more than 3-fold from Rs 64.85 Cr in 2014-15 to Rs 207.47 Cr in 2018-19.
However, the funding to the education sector had a contrasting pattern.
While Telangana witnessed a 4-fold increase in Education related CSR funding, the state of Andhra Pradesh saw CSR fund to the sector in 2018-19 dipping below the level of funding in the year 2014-15.
