To ensure year-round water supply for domestic and irrigation-related use
Mumbai (India CSR): Rajkamal Bajaj Foundation, the CSR arm of Avener Capital, has constructed a check dam at Vartha Pada Shensari Village in Palghar, Maharashtra. Built in collaboration with Diganta Swaraj Foundation, the 15m long and 3m tall check dam with its storage capacity of 10,000 cubic metres will transform lives of over 200 families and almost 2000 people living in the vicinity by supplying water for domestic and agricultural use.
The construction of the check dam was completed a month before the monsoon, thus giving the much-needed respite to the local village residents from persistent issues related to potable water supply, irrigation water storage and flooding during monsoon.

The check dam will provide water for irrigation to vast expanse of agricultural land. In addition, it will increase groundwater level, ensuring ample water supply throughout the year through wells and hand-pumps.

Commenting on the initiative, Seema Bajaj, Trustee at Rajkamal Bajaj Foundation said, “Building the check dam at Vartha Pada Shensari Village in Palghar is in line with our vision to make a difference to the lives and livelihoods of people from underprivileged sections of our society by building conducive and sustainable living conditions and helping them become self-sufficient. By supplying water for domestic and agricultural use and replenishing groundwater levels, the check dam will put an end to their water woes. It will contribute to the growth of the agrarian economy of that region. We are grateful to people of the adjacent villages for their support in building the check dam.”
