Chhattisgarh disburses Rs. 5,751 crore in short-term farm loans for Kharif 2025, benefiting farmers, via 2,058 cooperative societies, across the state.

RAIPUR (Chhattisgarh): In a major boost to agricultural financing, the Chhattisgarh government has disbursed Rs. 5,751 crore in short-term agricultural loans to farmers for the 2025 Kharif season. The disbursement has been made through 2,058 cooperative societies under the state cooperative banks, as per the directives of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and under the guidance of Cooperation Minister Kedar Kashyap.

“The state government has set a target of disbursing Rs. 7,800 crore in agricultural loans this year. The amount distributed so far constitutes around 74% of the annual target. Farmers are being provided loans in accordance with their landholding size and demand to meet the immediate requirements of cultivation.”, Chhattisgarh Govt informed.

The initiative is part of the broader objective of the state government to support farmers in meeting the initial costs of farming operations and to make agriculture more convenient and productive. A key instrument in this initiative has been the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme, launched to offer accessible credit and protect farmers from falling into the debt trap of private moneylenders.

Vishnu Deo Sai

Over the years, the KCC scheme has emerged as a lifeline for lakhs of farmers across Chhattisgarh. It has not only offered timely financial support for procuring seeds, fertilizers, and other essential inputs, but has also contributed significantly to the increase in crop production. The state’s commitment to empowering its farmers through institutional credit is yielding positive outcomes, ensuring food security and economic stability in rural areas.
