1. Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary

Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Chhattisgarh. It is home to a wide range of wildlife, including leopards, sloth bears, bison, deer, monkeys, and many species of birds. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 245 sq. km and has a rich and lush vegetation. The best time to visit the sanctuary is from November to June when the weather is pleasant and the animals are more active.

2. Raipur

Raipur is the capital and the largest city of Chhattisgarh. It is also one of the largest industrial centres of the country, with hundreds of steel mills and plants. Raipur is a hub of culture, commerce, and education in the state. Some of the popular attractions in Raipur are the Mahant Ghasi Memorial Museum, the Mahakoshal Art Gallery, the Vivekananda Sarovar, the Nandanvan Zoo, and the Rajiv Lochan Temple.

3. Jagdalpur

Jagdalpur is a beautiful and naturally bountiful city in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state, as it is surrounded by forests, hills, rivers, and waterfalls. Jagdalpur is famous for its tribal culture, handicrafts, and festivals. Some of the must-see places in Jagdalpur are the Chitrakote Falls, the Tirathgarh Falls, the Kanger Valley National Park, the Danteshwari Temple, and the Bastar Palace.

4. Charre Marre Waterfalls

Charre Marre Waterfalls is a refreshing and offbeat place to visit in Chhattisgarh. The waterfall is 16 meters high and the clear water falling from such a great height is quite a sight to see. The waterfall is located near the Jogidhara river, which is a tributary of the Mahanadi river. The waterfall is surrounded by greenery and rocks, making it a perfect spot for picnics and photography.

5. Sirpur

Sirpur is a small village located on the banks of the Mahanadi river, about 78 km away from Raipur. The village is an archaeological wonder, as it has many ancient monuments and temples dating back to the 5th to 8th centuries. Sirpur was once a flourishing Buddhist centre and a capital of the Dakshin Kosala kingdom. Some of the notable attractions in Sirpur are the Laxman Temple, the Buddha Vihara, the Gandheshwar Temple, and the Surang Tila.

6. Mainpat

Mainpat is an underrated hill station with green pastures, deep valleys, breathtaking waterfalls, dense forests, and untouched rivulets. The hill station has not been completely commercialised yet and receives a relatively smaller influx of tourists compared to its counterparts. Mainpat is often called the Shimla of Chhattisgarh, as it has a similar climate and scenery. Some of the places to visit in Mainpat are the Tiger Point Waterfall, the Dhakpo Monastery, the Parpatiya Sunset Point, and the Jaljali.

7. Madku Dweep

Madku Dweep is a beautiful island situated near the Shivnath river, in the Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh. The island is a historical site, as it has more than 19 temples and 58 ponds, built by the Kalchuri kings in the 11th century. The island is also a scenic spot, as it is surrounded by water and greenery. The island can be reached by a boat ride from the mainland.

8. Chitrakote Falls

Chitrakote Falls is the largest waterfall in India and is often called the Niagara Falls of India. The waterfall is located on the Indravati river, about 38 km away from Jagdalpur. The waterfall is about 29 meters high and 300 meters wide, and creates a spectacular sight, especially during the monsoon season. The waterfall is also a popular spot for boating, camping, and fishing.

9. Naya Raipur Central Park

Naya Raipur Central Park is a modern and well-maintained park in the new capital city of Chhattisgarh. The park is spread over an area of 35 acres and has various features, such as a musical fountain, a jogging track, a children’s play area, a yoga centre, and a herbal garden. The park is a great place to relax and enjoy the nature and the cityscape.

10. Bhoramdeo Temple

Bhoramdeo Temple is a magnificent temple complex located near the Maikal hills, about 18 km away from Kawardha. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famous for its erotic sculptures, similar to those of Khajuraho. The temple was built by the Nagvanshi kings in the 11th century and is a fine example of Nagara style of architecture. The temple is surrounded by forests and hills, adding to its beauty and charm.

11. Almatti Dam

Almatti Dam is a large and impressive dam built on the Krishna river, near the border of Chhattisgarh and Karnataka. The dam is a part of the Upper Krishna Project and is used for irrigation, power generation, and flood control. The dam is also a tourist attraction, as it has a beautiful garden, a musical fountain, and a boating facility. The dam offers a panoramic view of the river and the landscape.

12. Dongargarh

Dongargarh is a small town in the Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh. It is a famous pilgrimage centre for the Hindus, as it has the Maa Bamleshwari Devi Temple, located on a hilltop. The temple is believed to be one of the 52 Shakti Peethas, where the body parts of Goddess Sati fell. The temple can be reached by a ropeway or by climbing 1,080 steps. The town also has a Buddha Vihar, a Jain temple, and a Pragyagiri temple.

13. Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary

Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary is a wildlife reserve located in the Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh. It is a part of the Achanakmar-Amarkantak Biosphere Reserve and is home to many endangered animals, such as tigers, leopards, barking deer, wild boar, and gaur. 14. Rajim

Rajim is a town located on the confluence of three rivers, Mahanadi, Pairi, and Sondur. It is a holy place for the Hindus, as it has many ancient temples and ghats.
