NEW DELHI (India CSR®): Jindal Steel Limited spent Rs 175.84 crore on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities during FY 2025-26, surpassing its statutory requirement of Rs 133.74 crore by Rs 42.10 crore. The company’s CSR obligation was calculated at 2% of its average net profit of Rs 6,687.21 crore for the preceding three financial years, in accordance with Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013. The annual disclosure shows that there was no unspent CSR amount at the close of the financial year.
Health and nutrition receive the largest CSR support
Healthcare and nutrition remained the biggest component of Jindal Steel Limited’s CSR portfolio. The company spent Rs 67.21 crore on health and nutrition programmes during the year. The interventions covered communities in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Gujarat. Activities were carried out in districts including Puri, Khordha, Angul, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Raigarh, Ramgarh and Gandhinagar. The programme was implemented directly and through partner organisations, including Jindal Foundation, LEPRA, LV Prasad Eye Institute, JEWS-Raigarh and healthcare institutions. The focus included expanding access to healthcare services, preventive support and community well-being.
Education receives Rs 30.41 crore
Jindal Steel Limited spent Rs 30.41 crore on education initiatives in FY 2025-26. The projects were undertaken across Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, including aspirational districts. The education interventions covered Angul, Raigarh, Keonjhar, Khordha, Sundergarh and Ramgarh. Implementation partners included Jindal Foundation, OP Jindal University, JEWS-Barbil, JEWS-Raigarh, Gurukul Foundation and ISKCON. The investment underlines the company’s continuing focus on education access, learning opportunities and support systems for young people in communities around its operational areas.
Social inclusion programme gets Rs 22.33 crore
Social inclusion initiatives accounted for Rs 22.33 crore of the company’s CSR spending. The programme extended across Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Delhi, Bihar, Rajasthan and Haryana. The projects covered areas such as Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Danapur, Raigarh, Ramgarh, Kaithal, Kurukshetra and Yamuna Nagar. The company worked with organisations including Face of Change Foundation, Ideal Development Agency, Ramadevi Village Development Organisation, Adivasi Vikash Samity, Missionaries of Charity, Rawa Academy and Child and Women Development Society.
Investment in skills, livelihoods and infrastructure
Skill development programmes received Rs 16.62 crore. The initiatives were implemented in Angul, Raigarh, Ramgarh, Kurukshetra, Yamuna Nagar and Kaithal, with support from Jindal Foundation, JEWS-Raigarh, Lighthouse Communities Foundation and Om Prakash Jindal Gramin Jan Kalyan Sansthan. A further Rs 2.73 crore was spent on sustainable livelihood and women empowerment. These projects covered Angul, Raigarh, Keonjhar, Sundergarh, Ramgarh and Shakti. Jindal Steel Limited also invested Rs 14 crore in rural infrastructure. The projects covered multiple locations in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Haryana and Rajasthan. Rural infrastructure remains important for improving local access, connectivity and community assets in areas surrounding industrial operations.

Environment, water, sports and culture also feature
The company’s broader CSR portfolio included Rs 4.13 crore for environment and agriculture initiatives, Rs 2.87 crore for drinking water and sanitation, and Rs 3.56 crore for sports. Art and culture initiatives received Rs 4.68 crore. These thematic investments show that the company’s CSR strategy extends beyond direct welfare support to include environmental action, water access, local culture and youth development. The CSR disclosure reported aggregate project spending of Rs 168.54 crore. Administrative overheads were Rs 7.30 crore, taking total CSR expenditure for the year to Rs 175.84 crore.

Excess CSR spend available for future set-off
Since the company spent more than its prescribed CSR obligation, it reported an excess amount of Rs 42.10 crore. This amount may be available for set-off against future CSR obligations, subject to the applicable legal provisions. The annual report records no surplus arising from earlier CSR projects. It also states that no amount was transferred to the unspent CSR account and that there was no CSR expenditure on the creation or acquisition of capital assets during the year. All reported CSR expenditure was linked to ongoing projects. The company did not report spending under projects classified as “other than ongoing projects” for FY 2025-26.
CSR impact assessment highlights community reach
Jindal Steel Limited’s impact assessment, covering CSR work undertaken between FY 2021-22 and FY 2024-25, reviewed 15 flagship initiatives across five thematic pillars. The assessment involved 23,580 structured surveys, 240 primary sampling units and 150 observed sites. According to the company’s disclosure, its CSR interventions reached more than 2.5 million people. The assessment highlighted improved access to services, early support for vulnerable communities, stronger local participation and better outcomes in health, education, livelihoods, sports and social inclusion. The company’s CSR implementation is overseen by its Board-level Health, Safety, CSR, Sustainability and Environment Committee.
