BENGALURU (India CSR): AUMOVIO India is restoring Dhunturu Lake in Kanakapura taluk of Ramanagara district, Karnataka, to improve local water security, revive biodiversity and strengthen community stewardship of a shared freshwater resource. The community development initiative is expected to benefit around 1,700 households across eight villages under the Kadahalli Gram Panchayat.

The Dhunturu Lake restoration project is designed to rejuvenate a vital freshwater ecosystem by improving the lake’s water-holding capacity, supporting biodiversity restoration, and encouraging community participation in the conservation of shared natural resources. The project is expected to contribute to improving water security, ecological balance, and long-term environmental resilience in the Kanakapura region.

This initiative builds on AUMOVIO India’s experience in implementing similar lake restoration projects, like the successful restoration of Hullahalli Lake. At Hullahalli, the project enhanced water-holding capacity, supported the revival of local biodiversity, restored the lake’s natural area, and strengthened community participation and ownership of the lake’s conservation.

Located in Dhunturu village, the lake spans 10 acres and 27 gunthas and serves as an important natural resource for the surrounding communities. Through the restoration work, AUMOVIO India aims to strengthen the lake ecosystem, improve its capacity to retain water, and support the revival of local flora and fauna. Improved groundwater recharge is also expected to support farmers in the region by enhancing irrigation potential and reducing dependence on unpredictable rainfall patterns.

The initiative will benefit the people of Kadahalli Gram Panchayat, which comprises 8 villages with a total population of 7,000 individuals and 1,700 households, as per the 2011 Census. In addition to environmental restoration, the project will help create awareness among local communities, youth, and students on water conservation, ecosystem sustainability, and the responsible management of natural resources.

Prashanth Doreswamy, President & CEO, AUMOVIO India, said, “At AUMOVIO India, we believe that progress must extend beyond business operations and create meaningful value for the communities around us. The restoration of Dhunturu Lake is an important step toward strengthening local water security, supporting biodiversity, and building greater community ownership around natural resource conservation. By investing in the revival of this freshwater ecosystem, we aim to contribute to long-term environmental and social resilience in the Kanakapura region.”

Through the Dhunturu Lake restoration project, AUMOVIO India continues community-led change—empowering local people to restore shared resources, strengthen livelihoods, and create lasting impact.
