New Delhi: Taking the Hilldaari movement forward, RECITY and Nestlé India revealed the ‘Wall of Hope,’ a 12*150 feet installation at Banglo Ki Kandi Village near the highly popular tourist area of Kempty Falls in Mussoorie on June 18th. The installation is a part of Hilldaari project that aims to create awareness on plastic waste management and the importance of creating a plastic-waste free environment.
‘The Wall of Hope’ has been designed by Dr. Subodh Kerkar, Founder, Museum of Goa, using 15000 bottles to encourage the tourists towards a better practice of ‘No littering’.
The installation has been built with the help of more than 50 volunteers from schools and colleges across Mussoorie, and women from ‘Banglo Ki Kandi’ village near Kempty Falls, who has worked tirelessly to cut and paint bottles and fix them in the wire mesh.
“The installation will draw structural strength from steel pillars being fixed two feet deep into the ground. We have created a prototype in Goa, and the structure is completely rain and windproof. I hope the installation will inspire a sense of beauty and will complement the serene background of the hills.”, said Kerkar.
Adding to this, Sanjay Khajuria, Director – Corporate Affairs, Nestlé India said that the ‘Wall of Hope’ signifies their collective commitment to increase awareness about plastic waste management, through upcycling, which is a creative way to reuse plastic water bottles. He further added that they have endeavored to use art to send a strong message of ‘litter free hills’ through the ‘Wall of Hope.’
Hilldaari has been continuously working over the last few months with various stakeholders including the Mussoorie Nagar Palika Parishad, waste workers, citizen groups, various local associations, local media channels, and organizations on multiple initiatives.
