Singhitarai, Sakti. Chhattisgarh. (India CSR): Vedanta Power, operating in the thermal power sector through its Sakti Thermal Plant, engaged around 120 women and 50 students from Singhitarai, Odekera and Nimohi Gram Panchayats on June 9 through World Environment Day activities focused on sustainability awareness, skill-linked creativity, tree plantation and community participation.
The activities were organised in the operational villages of Vedanta Power’s Sakti Thermal Plant. The programme connected environmental awareness with ongoing community development and skill development initiatives.
The initiative included drawing competitions, digital painting activities, cultural performances, awareness sessions and sapling plantation. The theme of the student activity was “Inspired by Nature: For the Climate, For Our Future.”
Community Participation in Three Gram Panchayats
The World Environment Day programme was held in Singhitarai on June 9. It covered participants from Singhitarai, Odekera and Nimohi Gram Panchayats.
Around 120 women and 50 students took part in the activities. The participants were associated with Vedanta Power’s ongoing community programmes.
The programme was designed to create awareness on environmental conservation among women, students and local communities.
Skill Programme Beneficiaries Join Creative Activities
Drawing and digital painting competitions were organised as part of the event.
Women enrolled under Project Sakhi, which includes tailoring and beauty and wellness training, participated in drawing activities. They used artwork to express ideas related to nature and environmental protection.
Students from the Computer Training Programme under the Youth Skill Development Initiative created digital paintings. Their work was based on the theme “Inspired by Nature: For the Climate, For Our Future.”
The competitions linked skill development with environmental communication. They also provided a platform for rural women and youth to participate in awareness-building activities.
The event included awareness sessions on practical environmental issues.
Participants were informed about the need to reduce single-use plastic. The sessions also focused on conserving natural resources and promoting tree plantation.
The programme used simple community-level messages to explain environmental responsibility. The aim was to encourage local participation in sustainability actions.
Cultural Activities Carry Conservation Message
Environment-themed songs, poems and skits were performed during the event.
These cultural activities conveyed messages on environmental protection and responsible use of natural resources. The format helped communicate the theme to participants and community members in an accessible way.
Such activities also created local engagement around World Environment Day and climate-related awareness.
Public Representatives Attend Event
The winners of the competitions were felicitated with prizes and mementos.
The event was attended by Kajal Kiran Dansena, BDC Member, Devarghatta; Geeta Bai Sidar, Sarpanch, Singhitarai; and Nan Kunwar, former Sarpanch, Odekera.
Public representatives, participants and community members also planted saplings. They collectively pledged to protect and preserve the environment for future generations.
Link with Livelihood and Digital Skills

They said the computer, tailoring, and beauty and wellness training initiatives are supporting women with livelihood opportunities and helping rural youth gain digital skills.
