NEW DELHI: Following the successful debut of its inaugural season, MatkiPhod League (MPL) is preparing to return with a bigger, grander and more ambitious Season 2. The upcoming edition will bring together sport, culture and entertainment while presenting India’s traditional human pyramid sport in a professionally organized league format.
The professional journey of MatkiPhod League (MPL) began with Season 1 in 2025 at Thyagaraj Stadium, New Delhi. The inaugural season featured 12 participating teams and marked an important milestone in transforming the traditional MatkiPhod celebration into a structured sporting event. Competitive teams, professional event management, improved safety arrangements and enthusiastic audience participation demonstrated the immense potential of this indigenous sport. The event also featured a spectacular live performance by Padma Shri Shankar Mahadevan, adding a grand entertainment experience to the sporting celebration.
Building on the strong foundation created by Season 1, MatkiPhod League (MPL) Season 2 is being planned on a significantly larger scale. The upcoming season will feature greater team participation, professionally structured competitions, enhanced production, improved safety standards, celebrity appearances, live entertainment, corporate partnerships and wider media visibility.
