NEW DELHI (India CSR): As winter descends on India, Delhi’s air quality has plummeted to hazardous levels. A thick layer of smog has enveloped the capital city, causing widespread health concerns. From breathing difficulties to throat irritation, residents are grappling with the effects of severely polluted air.

Experts predict that air pollution will worsen as winter intensifies, making it increasingly difficult to breathe in Delhi. It is essential to take proactive measures to protect your health. Ayurveda offers effective ways to strengthen your body and combat the harmful effects of pollution. Here are five Ayurvedic tips to help you stay fit and healthy during this challenging time.

1. Turmeric Milk and Gargling: Strengthen Immunity

Drinking a warm cup of turmeric milk before bedtime is a simple yet effective way to boost your immune system. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which soothe the respiratory system and alleviate irritation caused by polluted air.

Additionally, gargling with warm turmeric-infused water can help relieve throat soreness and reduce inflammation. These practices not only protect your respiratory tract but also enhance overall immunity.

2. Amla Juice: A Vitamin C Powerhouse

Amla (Indian gooseberry) is a rich source of Vitamin C and is highly effective in neutralizing the harmful effects of air pollution. Consuming amla juice or eating one fresh amla daily can significantly boost immunity, improve respiratory health, and protect the skin from damage caused by toxins.

This seasonal superfood strengthens the body’s natural defenses, making it a vital addition to your diet during winter.

3. Oil Pulling: A Natural Barrier Against Pollutants

Oil pulling, an ancient Ayurvedic practice, involves swishing a small amount of coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for about 5 minutes. This technique creates a protective layer around your gums and teeth, preventing toxins and allergens from entering your system.

The oil acts as a natural barrier against pollutants while keeping your mouth clean and healthy. Practicing oil pulling daily can help reduce the impact of polluted air on your body.

4. Neem Water: Cleanse Your Skin and Hair

Neem water is a powerful remedy for protecting skin and hair from pollution-related damage. Neem’s antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties help eliminate pollutants and toxins.

Boil neem leaves in water, let it cool, and use it for bathing. Regular use of neem water can cleanse your skin, protect your hair from pollutants, and provide relief from pollution-induced skin irritation.

5. Anulom-Vilom: Strengthen Your Lungs

Anulom-Vilom, a simple yet effective breathing exercise, helps improve lung capacity, boost immunity, and cleanse the respiratory tract. Practicing Anulom-Vilom for 10-15 minutes daily enhances lung function, allowing your body to filter toxins more efficiently.

This practice is especially beneficial in strengthening your lungs to combat the effects of smog and polluted air, ensuring better respiratory health.

You Learn: Ayurvedic Solutions for Better Health

Delhi’s toxic air poses serious health risks, but adopting these Ayurvedic tips can help you mitigate its effects. From boosting immunity with turmeric milk and amla juice to protecting your skin and lungs through neem water and Anulom-Vilom, these natural remedies provide holistic solutions for maintaining health amid pollution.

Take proactive steps to safeguard your well-being and make these practices a part of your daily routine. While the fight against air pollution continues, prioritizing your health is the best way to cope with the challenges of Delhi’s ‘smog season.’
