Women’s health, particularly menstrual disorders, remains a significant yet often overlooked concern. To address this issue and raise awareness about common problems and prevention strategies, renewable power generator Sembcorp and the Infrastructure Skill Development Academy (ISDA) organised a medical camp under their mobile medical unit (MMU) initiative.

Conducted as part of the International Women’s Day celebration,70-75 women and girls benefitted from the free health camps, which provided consultations, testing, diagnosis, treatment services and awareness sessions.

The primary objective of this health camp was to destigmatize menstrual health by conducting awareness-building sessions, particularly targeting women in remote areas who often lack access to adequate healthcare resources.

To date, the mobile medical units have reached out to about 2000 women in Bhuj, offering diagnostic services and free treatments. Dr. Nikunj, a respected gynaecologist in Bhuj, has played a pivotal role in providing free consultations and examinations during these camps. Based on her experience, Dr. Nikunj has highlighted the prevalence of hygiene-related infections among women in the area, underscoring the urgency of timely interventions.

Over the years, Sembcorp has undertaken several initiatives to spread awareness on women’s wellness. MMU works for Empowering women’s wellness and starts with recognizing and addressing the unique physical, emotional, and societal factors that influence their health, advocating for accessible healthcare, fostering supportive communities, and promoting self-care practices that prioritize holistic well-being.

Two sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators have been installed at Moti Bhadai Government High School. These initiatives not only empower girls with access to menstrual hygiene products but also foster an environment where discussions about health and well-being are encouraged. Awareness sessions on menstrual hygiene are conducted for young girls, providing them with a platform for open discussions and addressing their concerns. Collaborative efforts with Anganwadi centres to celebrate Kishori Balika Diwas, aligns with the Gujarat government’s initiative to raise awareness about menstruation and menstrual hygiene.

The mobile medical units are designed to make essential healthcare services accessible to communities in remote and underserved areas. Equipped with GPS systems for real-time monitoring, these units conduct year-round health camps and basic diagnostic procedures directly in rural communities. Specialized camps are also organized to address the unique healthcare needs of women, children, and elderly individuals.

To date, medical camps have been organized in 28 villages across 2 talukas, offering free treatment and medicines for both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
