Technological innovations promise us a greener, richer, smarter and above all more connected world. Can tech really make the world a better place?

Tech at the service of the human being in all its dimensions

Digital technologies have revolutionised the world: by addressing the multitude, they place the user at the heart of their business model; by scrutinising the expectations of their “avatar”, they invent fast, simple and inexpensive services. These services take the form of applications: to schedule medical appointments, to have food delivered, to buy things without having to leave home, to be entertained, etc. Technology is also making our daily lives easier: the home is becoming intelligent and autonomous, from the robot hoover to programmable heaters and connected speakers. Technology makes everyday life easier, freeing our minds and allowing us to spend more time on leisure activities.

Tech promotes talent sharing

There are many digital tools that facilitate collaboration and sharing: in business, they can be valuable in helping to communicate and work in teams.

On this point, tech is rather a pioneer: messaging, social networks, file sharing and even e-learning tools allow interaction and co-construction. Scientific research itself is collaborative, for example by asking citizens to observe certain natural environments or species.

Hackathons, these playful competitions in which people try to meet a technological challenge in a few hours, enable students to rub shoulders with company directors, engineers and developers in a great emulation.

Very important social aspect

During the 2020 sanitary crisis, technology proved to be a lifesaver in our social relations. It made it possible to stay in touch with friends and family, especially through video. Even today, thanks to webcams and other messaging applications, technology makes long-distance relationships easier. Remoteness is no longer an obstacle; it is possible to play video games with friends and also other games like slot machine which are very popular across the world.

Gaming experiences are increasingly realistic and immersive , for example players can play Casino in India as if they were there in person.  In addition, thanks to virtual reality; we can meet up in a virtual world and experience the same sensations. Today, the metaverse is used by a limited number of individuals, but there is no doubt that this technology widespread in the years to come.

Technology allows people to keep in touch but also to meet new people more easily. Dating applications are proliferating, whether for romantic or friendly relationships, and video game platforms are creating communities where friendships between players are often formed.

For a more ecological world

Technology can provide answers to the environmental problem. Firstly, because there are technological innovations in the field of environmental research, particularly in the area of green and renewable energy. The consequences are visible in everyday life: there are more and more houses equipped with solar panels and electric cars on the road. Programmed obsolescence has no place in our consumer society and companies are well aware of this, and they are increasingly willing to produce objects that last a long time, using environmentally friendly processes and materials. This is an aspect of technology that we are not very aware of, but which is very real.

Our smartphones, which make our lives so much easier, are also a device that allows us to reduce our carbon footprint through dedicated apps. For example, there are carpooling applications to avoid taking the car and thus reduce CO2 emissions. Buying second-hand products is an ecological and civic act: dress second-hand with Vinted, sell and buy objects with dedicated apps.

The “Tech for Good” trend is growing… Innovation seems to provide so many solutions that it becomes synonymous with progress, hope and a brighter tomorrow.
