OP Jindal Rural Scholarship Programme for 2014-15 announced

ANGUL: Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) under its social development art JSPL Foundation organized a series of sustainable social welfare activities to mark the 85th Birth Anniversary of Shri Om Prakash Jindal, visionary, and founder of OP Jindal Group. As a part of the observation, Mr. Sachin Ramchandra Jadhav (IAS), District Collector and Magistrate, Angul inaugurated the ‘text book distribution to children of jail inmates’ programme at Angul Jail.
Mr. Jadhav handed over text book sets to the jail inmates for their children, in presence of Mr. Durga Choudhury (Land Acquisition Officer, Angul), Mr. Akshaya Samanta (Chairman, Angul Municipality) and Mr. DK Saraogi (Executive Director and Location Head, JSPL, Angul).
The programme covers all the 55 jails in Odisha and will provide text book sets to school children of 1905 jail inmates for the current academic year. JSPL Foundation is running this programme in for the eighth year and till now has provided 10424 book sets to the children of jail inmates in Odisha. John Augustus Prison and Social Welfare Services is supporting in implementation of the programme.
Speaking of the occasion Mr. Jadhav said, “I appreciate JSPL’s concern of the children, who might be deprived of education because their parent is in Jail. It is heartening to know that JSPL has been supporting such an unique social initiatives across Odisha for last eight years”.
On the occasion the birth anniversary of Shri OP Jindal, fondly known as ‘Babuji’, the JSPL Foundation launched OP Jindal Angul Cup Foot-ball tournament at Angul Stadium which was inaugurated by Prasanna Kumar Das, Sub Collector, Angul in presence of Mr. Shakti Prasad Patnaik, President of TAMDA, Mr. Akshaya Samanta (Chairman, Angul Municipality), Mr. Mahendra Kumar Sahu (District Sports Officer, Angul) and Mr. Nilamani Rout, Secretary of Angul Sub Division Athletic Association.
In this state level foot ball contest from Aug 7th to Aug 17th, 12 teams from Angul, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are participating. Mr. DK Saraogi, Executive Director in charge of JSPL, Angul, during his address, announced the launching of OP Jindal Rural Scholarship for the year 2014-15. The scholarship scheme, which last year supported 86 meritorious students from Chendipadda and Banarpal Block, will be provided to 100 meritorious students from same Blocks for their higher education in the year 2014-15.
A mega blood donation camp was also organized in association with District Blood Bank at the Occupational Health Centre (OHC). Employees, workers and family members of JSPL’s Angul unit volunteered to participate in this mega blood donation camp, where 236 units of blood were collected. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. DK Saraogi said, “Shri OP Jindal ji is our inspiration. The path of inclusive progress shown by him has led JSPL in building national assets as well as promoting community development”.
Dr. BK Das, Chief Medical Officer coordinated the camp along with CSR team of JSPL. Mrs. Sujata Saraogi, President of Jindal Mahila Samiti (JMS), employees, workers and family members paid floral tribute to Shri OP Jindal on his 85th Birth Day. In another voluntary Blood Donation Camp in Tensa, 31 blood units were collected.
The Bhubaneswar State Office of JSPL distributed about 500 packets of Sweets to differently-abled Children in various institutes in the Capital. At its Barbil unit JSPL observed the birth anniversary with puja and floral tribute paid by Mr. TS Shanbhogue, EVP & Unit Head. The company distributed school bags to 1510 students in local schools which include RAWA Academy, Adivasi Vikash Samiti and Dhabaleswar School.
Members of Jindal Ladies Club distributed fruit baskets among patients of Joda, Barbil and Basudevpur hospital.s Similarly at Tensa the Company organised OP Jindal Memorial Football tournament. Mr. Subrat Ratho, the Head Of Odisha Operation of JSPL paying his rich tributes to the Group Founder said that the inclusive business models set by Sri OP Jindal will continue to inspire the Corporate to accelerate their socio-economic initiatives for sustainable development.
Shri OP Jindal has been a true visionary and philanthropist, who have contributed significantly towards economic and social development of India. In November 2004, he was conferred the prestigious ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ for his outstanding contribution to the Indian Steel Industry by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He was elected to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha and was the Minister of Power in the Government of Haryana at the time of his death. He was also elected as a Member of the Parliament in the Eleventh Lok Sabha.
Besides above programmes, the Jindal Officers’ Club organised departmental hand-ball tournament at Jindal Nagar. In this sporting event, 16 teams from various departments of JSPL participated. In the evening, inhabitants of Jindal Nagar participated in a Bhajan Sandhya, organised in the memory of Shri OP Jindal.
