L ANJIGARH:Vedanta Aluminum Ltd (VAL) under its Environment department has organized an awareness program on environment cum mineral at Vedanta Executive Hostel on 14th September 2013. The Program has been organized by Society of geoscientist and Allied Technology (SGAT) Bhubaneswar and sponsored by Vedanta Aluminum Ltd, Lanjigarh.
The Program was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr.B.K.Mohanty, Advisor-Society of Geologist and allied technologists and Former Director of Mining & Geology, Odisha in the presence of Dr Mukesh Kumar COO & President VAL, B.C. Pattnaik-General Secretary (SGAT), K.R.Kundu –Head HR (VAL), Rabi Narayan Mishra-Head HSE(VAL) , T.M Kelly –Geologist (VAL) & Saradendu Panda –Sr. Mining Inspector (Kalahandi circle) In his Speech Mr.B.K Mohanty says “The area with full of resources lying unused since many years can be developed only through industrialization & mining.
He emphasizes the benefit to the community in terms of livelihood, employment and infrastructural development of area, but there is a requirement of Protection & prevention of environment through Proper Mining Plan .He also thanks Vedanta for taking several environment initiatives by plantation of trees and creating awareness among the publics by campaigning as per its sustainability guide lines.”
Dr Mukesh Kumar says that this is the prime responsibility of VAL towards creating a Healthy environment and has been taking all such initiatives. The KBK district can be developed only by industrialization because of large no of mines deposit have been staying unutilized since from the Independent of India.
Like last year SGAT has been organizing in the Mining areas, participated by students of Higher Secondary schools. The winning teams from each of the mining areas participate in the State Level EMAP held during the month of January every year at Bhubaneswar.
Overall the EMAP was monitored by Rabi Narayan Mishra and he informed the students through presentation about the production of alumina from bauxite and showed some snap shots of VAL initiatives about Healthy Environment.
Others present on the occasion are Ravish agrawal, SidharthaBehera, Sudhir Sahoo,Satya sahoo,Jharana Pradhan,Praveen George,Alok Gaya,Sonia Purohit,Tapan sahoo and the teachers & students of 11 High schools in Kalahandi district. Vedanta has also organized several competitions such as General Knowledge, Written Test, Identification of Minerals and exposure visit to plant for the students coming from various reputed institutes of Bhawanipatna,Narla,Bisnathpur and Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district.
