Award Ceremony
The honor was bestowed upon the representatives of TVS Srinivasan Services Trust by distinguished personalities including Padma Shree Dr. Subhash Palekar, a veteran in Natural Farming; Rusen Kumar, Founder and Managing Editor of India CSR; and Sita Ram Gupta, a veteran in the social sector. Project Overview
In the rural heartlands of Pune, SST has been a catalyst for change in the realm of women’s empowerment. Since its inception in 2011, SST’s mission has been to alter the narrative surrounding the vulnerabilities faced by Indian women. The project, touching the lives of over 3,000 beneficiaries, has been a beacon of hope and progress.
Strategies for Empowerment
SST’s approach has been multifaceted, commencing with critical awareness campaigns that focus on literacy and building confidence among women. This foundation paves the way for skill training and the formation of self-help groups (SHGs), which have been instrumental in fostering financial independence. These groups, numbering over 270, have enabled more than 3,500 women to secure collective bank loans exceeding Rs. 5 crores and participate in Income Generating Programs (IGPs).
Success Stories and Impact
The project has yielded numerous inspiring stories. From Jyoti Waluj’s journey in tailoring to the spice entrepreneurship of Wadgaon Pir Women, and Vandana’s grocery venture, these narratives exemplify the transformation experienced by the beneficiaries. Women who were once daily wage laborers have become successful entrepreneurs, addressing local needs and contributing significantly to their communities.
Beyond Economic Empowerment
However, SST’s vision transcends economic upliftment. It’s about enabling women to invest in sustainable livelihoods, leading to an overall enhancement in family life, prioritizing education, sanitation, and nutrition. The SHGs have also empowered women with collective bargaining power and better access to credit, reshaping their life trajectories.
Centers of Social Leadership
SST’s SHGs have evolved into hubs of social leadership, promoting village development and active participation in local governance. This holistic approach has not only transformed individual lives but also fostered a sense of community and collective progress.
