MUMBAI: Thomson Reuters hosted and honoured the National Blind Cricket Team (T20 & ODI World Cup Champs) at an exhibition match with the corporate cricket team on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at BEL Grounds, Bengaluru. The Thomson Reuters Cricket Bash (TRCB) is an annual cricket tournament organised by the Thomson Reuters Sports Council for the staff. This year 64 teams competed against each other in a knock out round of eight groups. The theme for Thomson Reuters Cricket Bash 2017 was Diverse but united by Cricket.
Cricket fever has been at its peak in 2017 with the national cricket team retaining their top spot in the ICC Test ranking and for the first time in the history of Indian cricket, two spin bowlers topped the chart in the player ranking in tests. Then again, on February 12, 2017 the India Cricket Association for the Blind (CAB) beat arch rivals Pakistan Blind Cricket team by 9 wickets in the finals to retain the T20 World cup Trophy at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Ergo, this year the Thomson Reuters Cricket Bash would have to be bigger to reflect the mood of the nation.
The players displayed some great tactical skills on field to a huge crowd, where every boundary was met with a loud cheer. Ajay Kumar Reddy’s team set a target of 71 off six overs that was successfully chased down by Prakash Jayaramaiah’s team
At the close of the match, the winners – the national team – were presented with a check of Rs 5,57,000 to salute their efforts in winning the World T20 World Cup. Mahantesh G.K, Founder Managing Trustee, Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled, collected the cheque on behalf of the team.
