WEST BOKARO: In an endeavour to provide quality education to the primitive tribes, Tata Steel at West Bokaro has enrolled 24 Birhore children to St Robert’s High School, Hazaribagh, this year.
The Company bears all the education expenses like boarding, lodging, fees etc. for these children who have been showing keen interest in education now-a-days.
The initiative aimed at bringing the underprivileged Birhore community to the mainstream, 24 children of Birhore Tola from Duru Kasmar village under Mandu block of Ramgarh district were identified and inducted for residential education at St Robert’s High School, Hazaribagh.
On Monday, Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), the rural development wing of Tata Streel organised a one-day health camp at St Robert’s High School which was available to all the students of the school.
Doctors of TSRDS volunteered their services for the camp in which consultation, free medicines along with necessary on-the-spot pathological investigations were also provided to 372 students.
Apart from this, the senior management of Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division also visited the school and interacted with the 24 Birhore students who are supported by Tata Steel. The programme under the banner of ‘Bringing Tomorrow. Today’ was inaugurated by Sahabji Kuchroo, Chief Operations, Tata Steel (West Bokaro).
On the occasion, the Birhore students were provided school backpacks, sports material, t-shirts, bedsheets, mosquito nets, etc by the dignitaries from Tata Steel.
Expressing his happiness, Kuchroo said, “This interactive session aims at creating enthusiasm among the children towards education. Seeing the interest and happiness among the children, we plan to induct 11 more Birhore children to this school in this fiscal year. We strongly believe that by providing mere facilities to the under-privileged will not assist them to come to the mainstream but by providing quality education to these children, we can help them become self-reliant”.
The interactive day with the school children concluded with a feast where the Tata Steel officials and the Birhore children sat and eat together while discussing their journey.
Among others present on the occasion were Praveen Sinha, Chief, Human Resource Management, Tata Steel (West Bokaro), Mayank Sekhar, Chief, Quarry AB, Tata Steel (West Bokaro), Kunal Saran, Head, Mine Planning, Tata Steel (West Bokaro) and Kesav Ranjan, Unit Head, TSRDS along with other officials of Tata Steel and TSRDS.
