West BOKARO: Commemorating the World Population Day and to promote family planning in the society, Tata Steel Rural Development Society (TSRDS), West Bokaro organised an awareness session on Wednesday at community centre, Mukundabera under Mandu block of Ramgarh district.
More than 80 women from in and around West Bokaro participated in the awareness session based on this year’s theme ‘Family planning is a human right’ that also encompassed a quiz on family planning. The session aimed to increase people’s awareness on various issues such as the importance of family planning, maternal health and human rights.
Dr U K Patwari, Head Consultant, Tata Central Hospital (TCH), West Bokaro attended the event as chief guest along with Dr Sapna Biswas, Registrar, TCH, Keshav Kumar Ranjan, Unit Head, TSRDS, Dr Tej Bahadur Singh, Medical Officer, TSRDS and Dr Jayant Tripathy, Senior Registrar, CSR.
The dignitaries briefed the participants on various aspects of family planning, reproductive health, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, child health and human rights. During the session, the speakers also informed the participants about various safe family planning methods available.
On the occasion, an antenatal camp was also organized at the community centre that benefitted 58 pregnant women of Mukundabera and nearby villages. Apart from free consultation and on the spot pathological investigations for proper diagnosis, the pregnant women were also provided with free iron, calcium, vitamin, protein supplements and immunization against Tetanus along with other medicines.
World Population Day is an annual event, observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.
