India CSR News Network

MUMBAI: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, today announced that, together with all its subsidiaries and joint ventures, Tata Power Group companies’ CSR spend in FY16 stood at Rs 47.02 crores.

While the Company standalone spent Rs 29.01 crores as against the required Rs 28.29 crores as per the CSR Act., its subsidiaries and joint ventures spent Rs 18.01 crore.

Through this, the Company reached out to more than 250 villages/urban pockets across 7 states, benefitting over 1.5 million people.

Continuing with its legacy of empowering communities, Tata Power Group companies have aligned their CSR policy to five thrust areas – Primary Education with focus on girl child, Health & Drinking Water, Livelihood and Employability, Social Capital and Infrastructure, and Inclusive Growth. The programs have been rolled out across plant locations and the impact will be mapped via timelines and outcome indicators. The CSR Initiatives are undertaken through the developmental arm – Tata Power Community Development Trust across all its locations.

Vivek Talwar, Chief Sustainability Officer, Tata Power, said, “Tata Power’s focus on CSR has been on designing and deploying sustainable programmes, where the community takes ownership of the programs in the true spirit of participatory development. There is sharper emphasis on capacity building of the community, which has led to better impact of programmes on health, access to affordable energy, water management and sanitisation.

Other critical programs that are being driven across the enterprise and showing scaled outcomes include working on the Model Village program, Tata Power Skill Development Institute and Affirmative Action initiatives thereby improving the quality of life of the communities. Now, Tata Power is working to develop an Aspirational Strategy for all its locations which would lay down the goals which the community would attain in its pursuit of socio-economic empowerment. Tata Power would continue to facilitate the process of development through collaborative processes, and seeking and sharing knowledge from key stakeholders.”

In FY16, Tata Power was ranked 2nd in CSR by Economic Times and IIM Udaipur Survey for CSR initiatives in 2014-15.
