MG Motor India’s comprehensive approach to sustainability and environmental responsibility exemplifies how brands can lead the charge in decarbonizing the environment.
NEW DELHI (India CSR): As World Environment Day approaches on June 5, 2024, MG Motor India is highlighting its unwavering commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. The company has been at the forefront of the electric vehicle (EV) revolution in India, focusing on both innovative product offerings and the development of a robust ecosystem.
Reducing CO2 Emissions: A Major Milestone
MG Motor India has pledged to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 2 lakh metric tons over the next 15 years. This ambitious goal is equivalent to the environmental impact of planting over 1.3 million trees. The company’s ZS EV has already contributed to saving 50 million kilograms of CO2, with an impressive 37,964,681 kilometers driven by this model alone.
Renewable Energy and Carbon Neutrality Goals
At the Halol manufacturing plant in Gujarat, MG Motor India is utilizing over 60% of its energy requirements from renewable resources, aiming to become carbon neutral by 2029. Through a partnership with CleanMax, the plant uses wind-solar hybrid power to meet 50% of its total energy needs. This collaboration places MG Motor among the pioneering passenger car manufacturers in India to adopt such innovative energy solutions.
Water Conservation and Charging Infrastructure
MG Motor’s Dry Wash initiative promotes water conservation by saving up to 1.4 million liters of water monthly through dry car washing techniques. Additionally, the company has installed over 15,000 charging touchpoints across India, including public and home chargers, enhancing the accessibility of EV charging infrastructure nationwide.
Strategic Partnerships for Fleet Electrification
MG Motor India is driving the transition to a net-zero economy by 2070 through aggressive fleet electrification. Collaborating with partners such as Blu Smart, Vertelo, and Orix, MG India is supplying electric models in bulk to accelerate EV adoption. The company has also partnered with HPCL to deploy 50kW/60kW DC fast chargers at key locations, facilitating long-distance and intercity travel for EV users.
Comprehensive Sustainability Initiatives
Beyond EV adoption, MG Motor India is implementing several key sustainability initiatives, including:
- Zero Discharge Plant: Utilizes 100% of treated water.
- Cleaner Fuel Usage: Employs PNG in all processes.
- Zero Landfill Site: Ensures 100% disposal of hazardous waste in cement plants.
