Certificates to 53 Toppers from 32 varied schools in Thoothukudi District

THOOTHUKUDI: Sterlite Copper, a unit of Vedanta Limited has awarded to 53 toppers across 32 schools in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu under its marquee ‘Sterlite Scholastic Excellence Awards’ programme held today at Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, Thoothukudi.
Committed to the empowerment of communities around its operations, these awards are a continuance of company’s pledge to nation-building through the youth of the country.
This is the seventeenth edition of ‘Sterlite Scholastic Excellence Awards’ for the Thoothukudi district toppers in Std X and XII of Government, General and Corporation schools.
Padma Shri Dr Mylswamy Annadurai, Director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru presented the certificates and the cash awards to the meritorious students and schools in the presence of Anshu Goel, Business Head – Copper and Precious Metal, Sterlite Copper and M Ramakrishnan, Chief Educational Officer, Thoothukudi.
Padma Shri Dr Mylswamy Annadurai kick started the successive fifth year of ‘Ilam Mottukal’ Project by distributing an education kit to 17 girl students.
Speaking on the delightful occasion, Padma Shri Dr Mylswamy Annadurai said, “I appreciate the efforts taken by Sterlite Copper to motivate underprivileged children to go for higher education and congrats to the awardees on their achievement. Continue to keep up the spirit at all times in your life.”
District toppers were presented merit certificates and cash award based on their first, second and third position. Nine students from Std XII and Twenty Three students from Std X received the awards. For Std XII toppers, the first position awardees received Rs 25,000, while the second place holders received Rs 15,000 followed by Rs 10,000 for the third positions. The Std X toppers received Rs 10,000, Rs 7,500 and 5,000 respectively.
Dr C. Veerabagu, Principal, VOC College, Mr Selvaraj, Advisor, Subbiah Vidyalayam Girls Higher Secondary School, Sterlite Copper Officials Mr Dhanavel, Head Commercial, Capt. Sonica Muraleedharan, Head HR, Dr R Kailasam, Chief Medical Officer and Head CSR, Other Officials of Sterlite Copper, community members and parents of the awardees were also present during the occasion.
Sterlite Copper has distributed fruit saplings to the guests, community members, students and their parents as part of World Environment Day Celebration.
