Gen Surinder Nath, PVSM, AVSM (retd.) former Vice Chief of Indian Army & former Chairman, Union Public Service Commission; Justice P N Bhagwati, former Chief Justice, Supreme Court of India; and Dr. A N Saksena, former Financial Advisor, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.

The Golden Peacock award for Corporate Social Responsibility has been instituted to encourage international organizations to accelerate the pace of stakeholder oriented improvement processes. It is presented annually and requires companies to critically detail the strategy and philosophy for various initiatives taken to enhance their Triple Bottom Line Performance along with the evaluation strategy followed for existing initiatives. As a part of the process, Schneider Electric competed with some of India’s best organizations and was assessed by an eminent panel of juries including International strategists and members of the judiciary.

On the occasion of receiving the award, Mr. Olivier Blum, Country President, Schneider Electric India said, “The award is certain to inspire and encourage our large group of members of Schneider Electric India and the Corporate Social Responsibility team to intensify and extend their efforts to achieve greater success on all the three fronts – Economic, Social and Environmental.”

In addition to the Schneider Electric Foundation established to help people change their lives through ‘Access to Energy, Schneider Electric has developed a sustainable programme – BipBop for addressing the other end of the energy equation by developing access to reliable, affordable and clean energy for the people at the Base of the Pyramid.  1.4 billion people across the world have no access to electricity out of which 500 million live in India. With the strong willingness to involve local communities and local stakeholders in each country, the BipBop programme addresses critical issues to provide sustainable access to electricity.

The award application covered a detailed evaluation process where the evaluators recognize a variety of conditions under which an organization conducts its activities and consider these factors in their assessment of the organization’s performance against the assessment criteria. This is followed by a site visit, where the evaluators verify that the written submission truly reflects organization’s system and process. In the end, the evaluators shortlist organizations who are then invited to make brief public presentations, highlighting their major initiatives and achievements in that field and reply to any clarifications required by the final independent jury, before the winners are announced.
