The S M Sehgal Foundation, a non-profit organization based in India, has been transforming lives in rural areas of Rajasthan through its focus on community-led development. The foundation has been empowering villagers and citizens. The foundation is driving social change and improve their own lives by providing digital and life skills training, infrastructure development, and community organizing.
Foundation’s Community Impact
Recently, the foundation’s efforts have resulted in 80 schools being transformed with rainwater harvesting structures, 82 check dams and mini check dams being established, 3,100 students being trained in digital and life skills, and 40 ponds being created.
Transforming Lives through Education: The Story of Neelam
Neelam is a 20-year-old girl from the village of Lily in Alwar, Rajasthan. She is just one example of the positive impact the foundation has had. Despite her family’s financial struggles, Neelam gained confidence and exposure from the digital and life skills training. The facilities are offered by the foundation, inspiring her to enroll in a two-year Basic School Training Certificate Course and aspires to be a government primary school teacher.
Empowering Rural Communities through a People-First Approach
The founder and chairman of the S M Sehgal Foundation, Suri Sehgal, believes in putting people first and creating opportunities for sustainable development and positive social change in rural communities. The foundation’s work is based on a community-led approach. The work leads to lasting impact and sustainability. With active village development committees and institutions maintaining the physical and social capital created in the villages even after the foundation’s projects and training have been completed.
As of December 2022, the foundation has reached 4.2millon people across 12 states of India.
