VISAKHAPATNAM: Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (Visakhapatnam Steel Plant) has won the ‘IIM National Sustainability Award 2011’ among all the integrated steel plants in the iron and steel sector in the country.
The award is instituted by the ferrous division of the Indian Institute of Metals, according to a RINL press release.
The award was presented by PK Misra, Secretary (Steel), to Mr. AP Choudhary, CMD,RINL at a function during the 49th National Metallurgists Day (NMD) today at Hyderabad. Umesh Chandra, Director (Operations), RINL, also Present.
RINL won this award based on the performance and achievements accomplished during 2010-11. On production front, RINL-VSP achieved capacity utilization of 113%, 114% and 116% in Hot Metal, Liquid Steel and Saleable Steel respectively. Production in all major units exceeded 100% of rated capacity for the 10th consecutive year.
Value added production w.r.t saleable steel is 79% and is the best since inception. On financial front, RINL registered a record turnover ‘11,517 crores during 10-11.Sri. ACR Das, Industrial Advisor, Ministry of Steel, Shri M Narayana Rao, President, IIM and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Limited (MIDHANI), Dr. Malakondaiah, Director, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, and Sri.HM Nerurkar Managing Director, Tata Steel and Vice-President, IIM are graced the Function.
