New school bus flagged off to improve student mobility in remote areas of Ladakh
NEW DELHI/KARGIL: REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Limited, has extended CSR support of Rs. 1.25 crore to the District Administration of Kargil in Ladakh. The assistance will strengthen education, healthcare and drinking water infrastructure in the district.
The initiative is expected to benefit nearly 1.95 lakh residents of Kargil. As part of the programme, a new 40-seater school bus was flagged off to support safe and regular transportation for students living in remote and difficult terrain.
School bus to support students in difficult terrain
The CSR initiative was formally marked on June 19, 2026, in Kargil. The school bus was flagged off by Jitendra Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited, and Prince Dhawan, CEO of RECPDCL.
Senior officials from the Union Territory Administration of Ladakh and the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Kargil, were also present on the occasion.
The bus will help students from remote villages reach schools more safely and regularly. In hilly and geographically challenging areas like Kargil, transportation remains one of the major barriers to education. The new bus is expected to reduce this gap and improve access to learning opportunities.
CSR support for essential services
The Rs. 1.25 crore CSR assistance will also contribute to improving healthcare facilities and drinking water infrastructure in the district. These interventions are important for Kargil, where difficult terrain, scattered settlements and harsh climatic conditions often affect access to basic services.
By supporting education, health and water infrastructure, RECPDCL aims to address key community needs and improve the quality of life for local residents.
