Hindustani classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra on Monday received the Padma Vibhushan award 2020. Pandit Channulal Mishra had been honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2010 and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2000.
Pandit Chhannulal Mishra is a celebrated Hindustani classical singer from Banaras. He is a noted exponent of the Kirana gharana of the Hindustani classical music and especially the Khayal and the ‘Purab Ang’ – Thumri.
He has sung many bhajans and ghazals, but one of his songs became quite popular in Bollywood, ‘Sans Albeli’.
The renowned singer was conferred with the second-highest civilian award of the country by President Ram Nath Kovind. Padma Awards ceremony is being held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar are among the attendees.

Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (for distinguished service of higher-order), and Padma Shri (for distinguished service of higher-order) are the three categories of awards (distinguished service).
The award is intended to recognise accomplishments in all fields or disciplines where public service is a factor.
This year, President will present 119 Padma Awards. There are seven Padma Vibhushans, ten Padma Bhushans, and 102 Padma Shris on the list. There are 29 women among the awardees, 16 posthumous awardees, and one transgender awardee.
