NEW DELHI (India CSR): Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) distributed 75,000 Deskits to 75,000 students across 750 government and other non-formal schools in six states and Union Territories as part of its education-focused CSR initiatives during 2025-26, according to the company’s Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR).
The Deskits, described by ONGC as school bags convertible into study tables, were distributed to students as part of the company’s efforts to support school education and improve access to learning infrastructure.
The education initiatives formed part of ONGC’s wider CSR programme during the year. The company reported CSR spending of Rs 942.88 crore in FY2025-26, with projects covering education, healthcare, skill development, rural development and other areas.
Alongside the Deskit programme, ONGC undertook a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening digital education infrastructure in government schools.
In Anand, Gujarat, the company supported the setting up of 97 smart classrooms in government schools. The initiative wasaimed at improving access to technology-enabled learning facilities in government schools.
ONGC also distributed 820 Shiksha tablets in Durg, Chhattisgarh, along with installation of 500 solar streetlights. In Ranaghat, West Bengal, the company provided Shiksha tablets to 700 students while also providing sewing machines to underprivileged women under the same CSR intervention.
The company’s education-related interventions extended beyond digital learning to school infrastructure and access to basic facilities.
In Panchmahal, Gujarat, ONGC supported the setting up of 38 smart classes and 35 solar RO water machines at government schools. In Uttar Pradesh’s Salempur Lok Sabha constituency, the company supported installation of 44 smart classes and 30 solar RO plants at government schools.
The company also supported formal education infrastructure, including the construction of Chief Minister Composite Schools in five districts of Uttar Pradesh, according to the BRSR.
Beyond school education, ONGC’s CSR portfolio included skill development aimed at improving employment opportunities among disadvantaged sections. During FY26, the company supported NSDC-certified electronic-sector skill development training for 1,000 underprivileged persons in Thanjavur, Bokaro, Visakhapatnam and Ahmedabad.
The company has also undertaken education and youth-development programmes in Jammu and Kashmir, including guidance courses, vocational education and cultural-value courses for youth. Such initiatives form part of ONGC’s broader focus on community development and capacity building.
ONGC’s BRSR states that its CSR interventions are directed towards inclusive development and include programmes for vulnerable and marginalised sections of society. The company also uses structured mechanisms to engage with priority stakeholder groups in planning its CSR interventions.
The company’s CSR portfolio during FY2025-26 comprised 1,353 projects, with the BRSR providing details of major projects across healthcare, education, disaster management, livelihood and community infrastructure.
