JSPL Barbil’s compact platform for rural talents to showcase their dribbling skill

BARBIL/KEONJHAR: The third edition of OP Jindal Memorial Football Tournament has been inaugurated today at Sialijoda football ground in Joda block in a glittering ceremony. The Tournament is being organized by Jindal Steel & Power Ltd’s Barbil Unit as a part of its effort to promoting rural sports and local talents.
EVP & JSPL Barbil Unit Head – T S Shanbhogue inaugurated this much awaited tourney, in which 32 teams from Deojhar, Birkala, Kandra, Chamakpur and Asainkala GPs are participating.
Inaugurating the tournament, Shanbhogue expressed pleasure over the huge participation of the local teams in the Tournament. “Promoting rural sports talents and facilitating their growth is one of the major activity of JSPL under its Corporate Social Responsibility programme”, he said.
Among others OPJCC Director – Miriam J. Carter, AGM S SPattnaik, Keonjhar District Athletics Association General Secretary Janardhan Das, Odisha Cycling Association Council Member Saroj Kumar Rana, Keonjhar District Cricket Team Coach Girish Chandra Hota and District Football Coach, GoO Ramesh Chandra Padhi.
The inaugural ceremony was coordinated by JSPL Barbil CSR Dept. Head Vargil Lakra. Local leader Janardan Nayak, Joda Blcok Vice Chairman Rebati Nayak along with other community leaders were present in the inaugural ceremony of the tournament.
The football tournament is being organized in partnership of Ranapratap Youth Association and has drawn huge appreciation and applauds from the dignitaries who graced the inaugural ceremony. It has also witnessed huge success as number of participating teams has risen this year and thousands of spectators from periphery areas have gathered to enjoy the dribbling skill of the rural sports talents.
During the inaugural programme Kickboxing and Wushu stars, promoted by JSPL Barbil, exhibited their talent on the occasion before the dignitaries and huge spectators.
The inaugural match was played between Sanbarbil and Gobardhanpur Team. Former soccer stars of this locality Sahid, Badal Mahakud, Halim, Krushna Chandra Mahakud and Arun Sekhar are the referees for this tournament. Similarly Jadumani Mahanta, Sitaram Munda, Pandia Munda are coordinating the whole tourney. 16 teams displayed their football skills in the first day of the tournament.
It may be noted here that JSPL consciously pursues a CSR Policy to promote local sports talent in the hinterland. JSPL Barbil has been promoting these popular sports among tribal youth by providing all sort of infrastructure and coaching facilities.
