CHANDIGARH ((India CSR®): Motorola, a global leader in mobile technology and innovation, handed over the completion certificate of the Motorola Aakashvani Programme to the Government of Haryana in the presence of Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana, Ipshita Chowdhury, India Marketing Head, Motorola, Poulamee Dey, CSR Specialist, Motorola and other dignitaries. Jointly implemented by Motorola Mobility, Tarq Foundation, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, and ANNAM.AI, the programme has successfully completed the deployment of 35 Automated Weather Stations (AWS) across villages in Kurukshetra and Yamuna Nagar in Haryana, enabling AI-powered hyperlocal weather intelligence for approximately 17,000 farmers and benefiting 87,000 rural residents.
The initiative collects and analyses hyperlocal weather parameters, including rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure, to generate real-time weather forecasts, early warning alerts, and actionable advisories. These AI-powered insights enable farmers to make informed decisions on sowing, irrigation, crop protection, and harvesting while strengthening preparedness for extreme weather events. The programme also promotes community resilience through WhatsApp-based alerts, Panchayat-led information dissemination, and capacity-building initiatives that help farmers and local stakeholders interpret and effectively use weather intelligence. Additionally, it generates verifiable weather datasets that support climate-risk planning and crop insurance claim validation, backed by continuous monitoring, maintenance, and technical support to ensure the reliability and long-term sustainability of the AWS infrastructure and advisory systems.
As changing weather patterns continue to impact agricultural productivity, especially in an agriculturally rich state as Haryana, timely access to localized weather intelligence has become increasingly critical for farming communities. A baseline assessment conducted by Motorola across project villages found that 82% of farmers had experienced significant climate-related crop losses, while only 21% were using weather forecasts to support farming decisions. The programme was designed to bridge this information gap by providing reliable, village-level weather intelligence that is timely, localized, and actionable.
Central to this effort is Motorola’s commitment to democratizing AI through inclusive, language-first technology solutions that transform complex weather data into simple, localized insights farmers can easily understand and act upon. By bringing the benefits of AI to the last mile, Motorola is enabling technology for social good that empowers communities, strengthens climate resilience, and improves livelihoods.
Speaking at the event, Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana, said, “Technology can play an important role in helping our farmers make more informed decisions and respond better to changing weather conditions. The Motorola Aakashvani Programme is a welcome initiative that has brought hyperlocal weather information closer to farming communities in Haryana. I appreciate Motorola, Tarq Foundation, Indian Institute of Technology Ropar and Annam.ai for their efforts and commitment to supporting our farmers through technology.”
T M Narasimhan, Managing Director, Motorola India, said, “At Motorola, we believe the true potential of technology is realized when it creates meaningful impact in people’s lives. The successful completion of the Motorola Aakashvani Programme in Haryana demonstrates how AI can be a powerful force for social good transforming hyperlocal weather intelligence into actionable insights that help farmers make informed decisions, strengthen climate resilience, and protect livelihoods. As we hand over the programme to the Government of Haryana and expand the initiative to villages in Uttar Pradesh, we remain committed to democratizing AI through inclusive, language-first innovations that bridge the digital divide and bring the power of technology to the last mile.”
The successful completion of the Motorola Aakashvani Programme in Haryana marks an important milestone in Motorola’s corporate social responsibility journey, demonstrating how technology can translate into meaningful, on-ground impact for rural communities. Building on the programme’s learnings and impact, Motorola will extend Aakashvani to Uttar Pradesh this year, India’s largest foodgrain-producing state and home to one of the country’s largest farming communities. The expansion represents a natural next step in taking AI-powered, hyperlocal weather intelligence to more farmers, supporting informed agricultural decision-making and strengthening climate resilience at greater scale. As Aakashvani enters its next phase, Motorola continues to reinforce its commitment to making advanced technology accessible, relevant, and actionable for communities, leveraging innovation to create meaningful and scalable social impact.
