Luxmi Tea has conducted 144 POSH workshops for around 10,000 workers while promoting women’s safety, livelihoods and leadership across tea estates.
KOLKATA (India CSR): Luxmi Tea Co Private Limited is strengthening workplace safety, dignity and women’s empowerment through sustained interventions across its tea estates, factories and corporate offices. During the past two years, the company has organised 144 awareness workshops under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment framework. Around 10,000 permanent and temporary workers have participated in sessions conducted in local languages across its operations.
The company has appointed estate-level POSH Champions who serve as accessible contact points and regularly engage with women workers. Its Internal Committees have also been strengthened through training, leadership engagement and direct interaction with employees. Senior company officials, including the Group Legal Head and external members of Internal Committees, regularly visit tea estates. These interactions are aimed at building trust, improving awareness about workplace rights and strengthening confidence in grievance-redressal mechanisms.
Luxmi Tea has also introduced livelihood and community-development initiatives for women beyond the workplace. At Makaibari Tea Estate, women are engaged in beekeeping, honey production and community homestays connected with tea tourism and local heritage. At Moran Tea Estate, traditional weaving has been revived as a cultural and income-generating enterprise. Women’s Self-Help Groups operate snack-making activities, while vermicomposting programmes support sustainable agriculture and supplementary livelihoods.
Mothers’ Clubs and Adolescent Girls’ Clubs provide platforms for discussions on health, education, gender equality and personal development. Girls’ football programmes promote teamwork, confidence and leadership, while scholarships and vocational training support children of tea garden workers, particularly girls. “Tea is ultimately about people. Their dignity, safety and aspirations deserve the same commitment we devote to producing the finest teas,” said Rudra Chatterjee, Managing Director, Luxmi Tea Co Private Limited.
Luxmi Tea was honoured with the Excellence in POSH Governance & Compliance Award at the fourth National Prevention of Sexual Harassment Conclave & Excellence Awards 2026, held in New Delhi on July 24, 2026.
