JAMSHEDPUR: The Institution of Engineers, Jamshedpur, Local Chapter had organized National Creativity Olympiad on 25-26 November2011, at its home ground to promote innovative learning in the field of science and technology among the school students. An exhibition with the theme of Working Models was also conducted at Tata Auditorium, XLRI Campus on 26 November2011.
The programme aimed at generating enthusiasm in school children and nurture their creative side by testing them through a well designed creative exercise, and encourage them by recognizing their skills in a suitable manner. The entire format and process under which the students were assessed were of high esteem which thoroughly tested their skills. 25 teams from reputed schools of India, hailing from places like Guwahati, Tirupati, Chennai, Indore , Bhubaneswar, Rourkela, Durgapur, Bokaro, Ranchi, Jhinkpani etc participated at the Working Model Exhibition to display their iconoclastic products.
While gracing the prize distribution ceremony with his gracious presence, Mr HM Nerurkar, Managing Director, Tata Steel, said, “The impact of creativity in our daily life has risen to a magnanimous extent. To nurture creativity in oneself, one must keep in mind the following five ideas- Association, Questioning, Observation, Experimentation and Networking. He further stated that the young generation should always challenge the status quo to keep progressing in life.” According to Mr Nerurkar, following these five mantras, one can easily inculcate creativity in one’s spirit. Honourable Guest of Honour, Dr S Ranganathan, Professor, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in his speech inspired the students to have faith in oneself as it is in their hands to shape the future and direct it towards its being bright and prosperous.

Jamshedpur Local Centre:
The first sub-centre in the country was established at Jamshedpur in 1952. It was upgraded as local centre in 1978 with a membership of about 200 corporate members spread over the district of Singhbhum. The centre now has over 637 corporate members, besides about 4860 non-corporate members on its roll. The center has the following infra-structural facilities : I) A 150 seat AC lecture hall ii) An AC conference hall having a capacity of 60 persons iii) A Library with reading room, Office, One class room, meeting room and two retiring rooms for the visitors. Presently Er. B K Das , Chief Of Mechanical Maintenance,Tata Steel is the Chairman and Dr. Ashok Kr. Vaish , Emirist Scientist , National Metallurgical Laboratory is the Hony Secretary.
