MUMBAI (India CSR): The Top 10 in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 cumulatively donated INR 5,806 crore in FY23, as against a combined donation of INR 3,034 crore in EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2022.

The Bajaj family, along with Cyrus S Poonawalla & Adar Poonawalla, as well as Rohini Nilekani, achieved a significant milestone by securing positions in the top 10 of the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023. They were ranked 6th, 9th, and 10th respectively.

Shiv Nadar & family have emerged as the leading philanthropists on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, making a remarkable donation of INR 2,042 crore.

Shiv Nadar & family

Shiv Nadar & family have emerged as the leading philanthropists on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, making a remarkable donation of INR 2,042 crore. The founder- chairman of HCL Technologies, Nadar has consistently displayed his commitment by contributing 76% more than his donations in FY22. Established in 1994, the Shiv Nadar Foundation operates under the ethos of ‘Creative Philanthropy’. Nadar’s philanthropic endeavors have predominantly centered around Arts & Culture. Noteworthy initiatives by the foundation include the SSN Institutions, VidyaGyan, Shiv Nadar University, Shiv Nadar School, Shiksha Initiative, and Kiran Nadar Museum of Art. The Foundation has dedicated a total of US$1.1 billion across its various impactful initiatives.

Azim Premji & family

With a substantial donation of INR 1,774 crore, Azim Premji & family secures the second position on the list. This noteworthy contribution marks a remarkable 267% increase year-on- year, attributed to a significant 400% rise in dividend payouts by Wipro in FY 2023. An innovative strategy employed by Premji enables the trusts to benefit monetarily from the shares, while Premji retains the voting rights.

Mukesh Ambani & family

Mukesh Ambani & family, the dynamic force behind Reliance Industries, have made a significant philanthropic impact with a donation of INR 376 crore, securing the esteemed 3rd position in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023. Their philanthropic endeavors are channeled through the Reliance Foundation, where their focus lies predominantly on enhancing education and healthcare sectors.

Kumar Mangalam & family

Securing the fourth position on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, the Kumar Mangalam & family has made a donation of INR 287 crore. Notably, around INR 75 crore of this contribution comes from their personal funds, underlining their commitment to philanthropy. On a global scale, the group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditure surpasses INR 500 crore, emphasizing their broad impact.

Gautam Adani & family

Gautam Adani & family of the Adani Group, have made a significant philanthropic impact with a donation of INR 285 crore. This contribution secured them the 5th position in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023. Their philanthropic endeavors are channeled through the Adani Foundation, where their primary focus lies on enhancing the education sector.

Bajaj family

Making an impactful debut on the philanthropic stage, the Bajaj family has secured the sixth position in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023 with a generous donation of INR 264 crore. This remarkable achievement marks their first appearance on the list since its inception, showcasing their dedication to meaningful giving and social impact.

Anil Agarwal & family

Securing the seventh position in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, Anil Agarwal & family, aged 70, has made a donation of INR 241 crore. This marks a 46% increase from his contributions in the previous year. A pivotal initiative of the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF) is Project Nand Ghar. Launched in 2015, Nand Ghar envisions transforming the lives of 7 crore children and 2 crore women across 13.7 lakh Anganwadis in India.

Nandan Nilekani and Rohini Nilekani

Ranked 8th and 10th in the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, the philanthropic couple, Nandan Nilekani, aged 68, and Rohini Nilekani, aged 64. Their annual donations stand at INR 189 crore and INR 170 crore respectively, reflecting their deep commitment to philanthropy. The Nilekani’s have signed the ‘Giving Pledge’, which commits half their wealth to philanthropic causes. They elevated their philanthropic contributions by an additional INR 80 crores, reaching a cumulative donation of INR 360 crore.

Cyrus S Poonawalla & Adar Poonawalla

Cyrus S Poonawalla & Adar Poonawalla, from the Serum Institute of India, have made a significant impact on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023, securing the 9th position with a donation of INR 179 crore. This marked a remarkable 60% increase compared to their previous year’s contribution and their focus primarily revolves around the healthcare sector. Poonawalla brothers have additionally given $19.08 million from Serum Inc. and Serum Institute Life Science-UK.
