ICICI Lombard’s FY2025-26 CSR initiatives impacted over 10 lakh lives through investments in healthcare infrastructure, road safety programmes, environmental sustainability, education, and livelihood development across India.

NEW DELHI (India CSR): For many children studying in government schools across India, poor eyesight often goes unnoticed until it begins affecting their education. A simple pair of spectacles can make the difference between struggling to read a blackboard and confidently participating in class. During FY2025-26, thousands of children received eye screenings and corrective eyewear through programs supported by ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company Limited. These efforts formed part of a much larger social responsibility initiative undertaken by the insurer during the year.

According to the company’s Integrated Annual Report 2025-26, ICICI Lombard spent Rs 51.67 crore on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities during the financial year ended March 31, 2026. The spending supported projects in healthcare, road safety, education, environmental sustainability, and livelihood creation across different parts of the country.

The report highlights that the company’s CSR strategy is aligned with national development priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through a combination of direct interventions, partnerships, and employee volunteering programmes, the initiatives reached more than 10 lakh beneficiaries during the year.

CSR Spending Exceeds Statutory Requirement

Under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, eligible companies are required to spend at least 2% of their average net profits from the previous three financial years on CSR activities.

According to the annual report, ICICI Lombard’s CSR obligation for FY2025-26 was Rs 51.40 crore. The company reported an actual CSR expenditure of Rs 51.67 crore, slightly exceeding the mandatory requirement.

The spending included Rs 51.40 crore allocated directly to CSR projects and programmes. Administrative overheads amounted to Rs 10 lakh, while Rs 17 lakh was spent on impact assessment studies to evaluate the effectiveness of major projects.

The report states that there was no unspent CSR amount at the end of the financial year, reflecting full utilisation of the allocated funds.

Reaching Communities Through Healthcare Initiatives

Healthcare continued to be one of the most significant pillars of ICICI Lombard’s CSR efforts during FY2025-26.

According to the annual report, the company worked through the ICICI Foundation and other implementing agencies to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and improve access to quality medical services.

The report highlights that support was provided to 13 healthcare projects across eight states. These projects focused on improving critical care facilities, cardiac care infrastructure, and medical research capabilities in public healthcare institutions.

Among the major interventions was support for a Heart-Lung Machine at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. The company also funded Pediatric Cardiac Care Acuity Beds at AIIMS Jodhpur and contributed to cardiac care research and development initiatives at AIIMS Nagpur.

Healthcare support extended to KEM Hospital in Mumbai, where critical care infrastructure received assistance through CSR funding.

According to the report, these investments are aimed at improving long-term healthcare capacity and ensuring better access to advanced medical treatment for patients from different socio-economic backgrounds.

Employee Volunteers Lead Vision Care Initiative

One of the most visible programmes highlighted in the report is “Caring Hands,” an employee volunteering initiative focused on preventing vision-related learning challenges among schoolchildren.

The annual report states that more than 4,000 employees and 26 channel partners participated in the programme during FY2025-26. Together, they conducted 275 eye screening camps across more than 150 locations.

The initiative screened over 50,000 beneficiaries during the year. As a result, nearly 4,000 children received free corrective spectacles.

The programme has grown steadily over the years. According to the report, it has reached approximately 5.5 lakh children since its launch.

The company also reported a strong Social Return on Investment (SROI) for the initiative, indicating significant social value generated through relatively modest financial investment.

Road Safety Remains a Major Priority

Road accidents continue to be a major public safety challenge in India. As one of the country’s leading motor insurers, ICICI Lombard has made road safety a core component of its CSR strategy.

According to the annual report, the company continued expanding its “Ride to Safety” programme during FY2025-26.

The initiative focuses on awareness, behavioural change, and protective measures designed to reduce road-related injuries and fatalities.

One of the programme’s key activities involved distributing specially designed helmets to underprivileged children and their parents. During the year, approximately 91,000 helmets were distributed across different regions.

The report highlights that awareness workshops accompanied the distribution drives. These sessions focused on promoting safe driving habits, proper helmet usage, and road safety practices.

According to programme assessments cited in the report, about 95% of participants reported regular helmet use following the intervention.

Since its launch in 2015, the Ride to Safety initiative has impacted more than 12 lakh lives and facilitated the distribution of over seven lakh helmets.

Environmental Sustainability Projects Gain Momentum

Environmental sustainability remained another important area of CSR investment during the year.

The annual report states that ICICI Lombard continued supporting renewable energy, afforestation, and conservation projects as part of its broader environmental strategy.

As part of its silver jubilee celebrations, the company planted more than 45,000 trees across ten states.

The report highlights large-scale plantation projects in Rajasthan and Bihar, where afforestation efforts were undertaken to improve green cover and contribute to climate resilience.

In addition to tree plantation drives, the company supported renewable energy infrastructure at educational institutions and conservation sites.

Among the major projects was a 305-kWp solar power installation at BML Munjal University in Gurugram.

Solar energy systems were also installed at Bannerghatta National Park and Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. Additional support was provided for solar-powered pumps and equipment at Nagarahole Tiger Reserve.

According to the report, these renewable energy initiatives helped avoid approximately 3,998 metric tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during the year.

The company’s sustainability efforts are part of its wider Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) framework, which the report describes as evolving from compliance-driven initiatives to long-term strategic commitments.

Supporting Livelihoods Through Skill Development

Livelihood generation and skill development formed another important part of ICICI Lombard’s CSR portfolio.

According to the annual report, the company supported several vocational training and employment-oriented programmes aimed at improving economic opportunities for young people.

These initiatives were implemented through partnerships with educational institutions and training organisations.

The report highlights that more than 10,000 people benefited from livelihood and skill development interventions during FY2025-26.

Several specialised training laboratories were established during the year to provide industry-relevant technical skills.

These included an Innovation and Technology Lab in Mehsana, Gujarat, a Digital Pre-Skilling Lab at Army Public School in Hyderabad, a Semiconductor Lab at NIELIT Patna, and a Computer-Aided Design Lab focused on fashion technology in Kolkata.

According to the report, these facilities aim to bridge skill gaps and improve employability among students and young job seekers.

The programmes are designed to support emerging industries and equip participants with practical skills aligned with evolving workforce requirements.

Social Impact Extends Across Multiple Sectors

The annual report highlights that ICICI Lombard’s CSR interventions collectively reached more than 10 lakh people during FY2025-26.

The impact was spread across healthcare, education, environment, road safety, and livelihood development sectors.

Over the years, the company’s CSR initiatives have reportedly touched more than 40 lakh lives across India.

The report notes that the organisation continues to focus on measurable outcomes and long-term community benefits rather than one-time interventions.

Impact assessments conducted by independent agencies help evaluate programme effectiveness and guide future investments.

Governance and Oversight of CSR Activities

According to the annual report, ICICI Lombard’s CSR activities are governed by the CSR and Sustainability Committee of the Board.

The committee is responsible for approving CSR policies, reviewing project implementation, monitoring fund utilisation, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

During FY2025-26, the committee was chaired by independent director Ms. Preeti Reddy and included Managing Director and CEO Mr. Sanjeev Mantri among its members.

The report states that the committee met during the year to review project performance and approve CSR plans.

The company’s Chief Financial Officer certified that the funds allocated for CSR purposes were utilised only for approved projects.

Independent impact assessments were conducted through CSRBOX and other external agencies to ensure transparency and accountability.

A Broader Vision of Social Responsibility

The FY2025-26 CSR report presents a picture of an organisation that is expanding its role beyond insurance services into broader areas of community development.

According to the annual report, the company’s Rs 51.67 crore CSR expenditure supported initiatives ranging from life-saving healthcare infrastructure and child vision programmes to road safety campaigns and renewable energy projects.

While healthcare and road safety remained major focus areas, the company also invested in long-term interventions such as skill development, environmental sustainability, and educational support.

The report highlights that these programmes are intended to create measurable social outcomes and contribute to inclusive development across communities.

As India continues to address challenges related to public health, road safety, environmental protection, and employment generation, corporate CSR spending is increasingly playing a complementary role. ICICI Lombard’s FY2025-26 CSR investments reflect this broader trend, with resources directed toward projects that seek to improve quality of life and strengthen community resilience across different regions of the country.
