HYDERABAD: Hindustan Unilever Ltd and GAIL have received the National Award for Excellence in Corporate Governance 2011 of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) for excellence in corporate governance at a presentation ceremony in Hyderabad on Friday evening.
ICSI bestows this award every year to those it considers the two best governed companies in India, underlining its commitment to good corporate governance. This is considered among the most prestigious corporate governance awards in India.
HUL Executive Director Dev Bajpai and GAIL chairman and managing director BC Tripathi received the awards.
CSI has also conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award on Wipro, which was received by its founder and chairman Azim Premji. The Union minister for corporate affairs M. Veerappa Moily gave away the awards.
The 20-member Jury for the national awards was headed by the former chief justice of India Justice RC Lahoti. Some of the eminent members of the jury include April Chan, President of Corporate Secretaries International Association, Grant Kirkpatrick, Head of corporate affairs division of OECD, Naresh Chandra, former Cabinet Secretary, VK Shunglu, former Comptroller & Auditor General of India, Dr RA Mashelkar, President of National Chemical Laboratory, TS Krishna Murthy, former Chief Election Commissioner of India and Anil Murarka, President of ICSI.
