UDAIPUR (India CSR): Hindustan Zinc, India’s only and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing the next generation through holistic education, skill development, and inclusive learning opportunities. The company’s flagship education programmes – Nand Ghar, Shiksha Sambal, Unchi Udaan, and Jeevan Tarang — continue to transform lives by improving access to quality education, promoting academic excellence, and empowering children with disabilities across its operational regions impacting lives of over 10 lakh children in the last five years.

Education has long been a cornerstone of Hindustan Zinc’s social impact philosophy. Through its Shiksha Sambal initiative, the company supports 35,000+ students across 140 schools, strengthening foundational learning in Science, Mathematics, and English. 30,984 classes have been conducted to enhance comprehension and performance levels, contributing to an impressive 95% overall pass percentage in Class 10 board exams — with 23 out of 66 schools achieving a perfect 100% result. The company has also established four STEM laboratories in Udaipur and Pantnagar to ignite scientific curiosity, developed 26 model schools and renovated 10 schools to create improved learning environments.

With Education Day now and Children’s Day around the corner, I take this opportunity to urge on empowering young minds who will shape India’s future with knowledge, skill, and inclusivity.”

Going beyond school education, Hindustan Zinc’s Unchi Udaan programme continues to create pathways for talented students from rural and tribal communities to pursue higher education in India’s premier institutions. So far, 150 students secured admission in prestigious engineering and government colleges, including IITs, with all participants passing in first division. Notably, 32 students have been placed in top-tier organisations, securing an average annual package of Rs 10 lakh, and the highest reaching ₹21 lakh becoming a testament to the programme’s focus on mentorship and excellence.

For children with special needs, Hindustan Zinc’s Jeevan Tarang initiative, launched in 2017, continues to champion inclusivity and empowerment. Through this programme, over 2,600 children with disabilities have benefitted from initiatives that include Indian Sign Language awareness sessions, mental health and hygiene workshops, and pre-vocational training designed to foster independence and confidence. The company’s inclusive programmes across Ajmer, Bhilwara, and Udaipur ensure that children of all abilities have equal access to education and opportunity.

A flagship initiative of the Anil Agarwal Foundation, Nand Ghars are modernised Anganwadis, developed in partnership with the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), built on four core pillars – nutrition, education, healthcare, and women’s empowerment. Each centre is equipped with digital learning tools, solar energy, safe drinking water, and healthcare linkages, while also offering skilling opportunities for women. Within Hindustan Zinc’s operational areas, nearly 2000 Nand Ghars are fostering early childhood development, healthier mothers, and empowered rural women, positively impacting nearly 3.7 lakh women and children.

Sports are also a vital pillar of youth development, fostering physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and confidence. In line with its vision of promoting holistic growth through sports, Hindustan Zinc established the Zinc Football Academy — a first-of-its-kind residential academy at Zawar, Rajasthan. The initiative represents a major stride in nurturing football talent from the grassroots. So far, the academy has trained over 3250 young athletes, many of whom have gone on to represent their district, state, and the nation, contributing to Rajasthan’s growing sporting excellence.

Hindustan Zinc’s sustained focus on education and youth development is part of its larger commitment to community transformation. By integrating initiatives that span early learning, higher education, and inclusion, the company continues to create meaningful, measurable change which ensure that every child, regardless of background or ability, has the tools to achieve their fullest potential.
