New Delhi – Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MHFW) is ready to launch Jan Jagrukta Abhiyaan, a special campaign in Delhi to sensitize and mobilise the community on measures for prevention of Vector Borne Diseases (VBDs) like malaria, dengue and chikungunya, from Jul 17.
“It is going to be a ‘People Movement’ from 17th to 19th July, through active involvement of people’s representatives, officers from Government of India, Government of NCT Delhi, all three Delhi Municipal Corporations, New Delhi Municipal Council, Railways and Cantonment board and other stakeholders to combat malaria, dengue and chikungunya” Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare said.
We ensure that before the monsoon our neighborhoods and various premises gets free of mosquitoes with collective effort and active participation of people and this is probably the first time that three governments-national, state and local bodies- will converge in their efforts to mobilise the community for a public health activity, he further added.
The members will meet the principal, teachers and staff of the school including the nodal teacher to sensitise them towards keeping the premises vector free and will address school children explaining methods for prevention of VBDs.
The team will meet with the Medical Superintendent to sensitise them followed by health talk on prevention, place Information Education & Communication (IEC) materials with messages on prevention and control of VBDs at strategic locations.
The hospital premises will be checked for breeding of vector mosquito and elimination of breeding habitat if any.
