Royal Opera House
The Royal Opera House is in Muscat, in the Shati Al-Qurm district. It’s on Sultan Qaboos Street and has elegant modern Omani architecture. The big white building was first named ‘House of Musical Arts’. It covers 20 acres and can hold up to 1,100 people. The Royal Opera House is a really unique place with a beautiful entrance and a big staircase that will make you feel amazed. Look at the pretty gardens, music hall, fancy restaurants, and art center for shows.
Al Alam Palace
Al Alam Palace is a beautiful building in Oman that is located between two forts called Al Jalali and Al Mirani. It is a great example of amazing architecture. This palace was built for the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos, and is a stunning example of modern Islamic design. The palace’s four opulent gold and blue columns serve as a stunning introduction to the building’s magnificent arches, tiles, and sculptures.
Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque
The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque was made from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone and it took six years to build. The mosque has beautiful patterns made with embroidery. It has verses from the Quran written in Thuluth script on the bars in the corridor. It’s very mesmerizing to look at. This amazing modern Islamic building has a really big chandelier in the main prayer hall. There’s a really big carpet here that’s famous. It’s 70 meters long and 60 meters wide. It took four years to make and it’s the second-biggest carpet made by hand in Iran.
Wadi Dayqah Dam
The Wadi Dayqah Dam is the largest in Oman and it’s located in the rocky mountains. It’s an impressive piece of architecture. This amazing thing made by people is close to Qurayyat town and takes about an hour and a half to reach from Muscat. The dam was opened in 2012. It can hold a lot of rainwater – about 100 million cubic meters! Every year, it gives out 35 million cubic meters of water.
Bahla Fort
Bahla Fort is an old fort in the Sultanate that’s very special. It’s one of four forts with a lot of history. People think it was built in 500 BC! It’s been fixed up a few times and is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987. Go see the big fort and you’ll find lots of towers, mosques, and wells to greet you. Al Qabasah, the oldest section of the fort, consists of a maze-like collection of chambers spread out over five stories; it will take you at least two to three hours to make your way through it all.
Jabrin Castle
Jabrin Castle, also called Jibreen Castle, was built in the late 17th century. It’s situated about 175 km from Muscat. People love it for its pretty windows, wooden balconies, and beautiful artwork on the ceilings. Don’t forget to see the pretty Arabic writing on the castle’s arches. Jabrin Castle’s most famous feature is the “Sun and Moon Hall”. It stays cool all year round because of its 14 windows that are placed smartly.
Al Jalali & Al Mirani Forts
Muscat’s skyline is dominated by two forts from the 16th century: Al Jalali and Al Mirani. These Forts are great spots to watch the sunset. They have antique doors, rugs, and pottery. This place is on the harbor and you can always enjoy the beautiful view of the city and the sea. The Portuguese made these forts a long time ago during the colonial period. Inside, you can see old things from wars like armor and weapons. Remember to explore the big wooden doors with metal spikes and lots of stairs if you want to feel like you’re in the past.
