GURGAON: Dell and Shiv Nadar University said that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate and drive excellence in research and innovation in the area of new technology. Under the partnership, Dell has set up two laboratories jointly with the University to integrate theoretical concepts with practical experience.
Dell will engage with faculty members at the University to mentor students and jointly work on technology projects in areas such as Big Data, Cloud Computing and Internet of Things. Dell will also share best practices, introduce students to next-gen technologies, and in the process, help build a future-ready talent pool through continuous exchange of knowledge and information.
The two laboratories sponsored by Dell will allow the University students to gain continuous, hands-on learning opportunities by working on projects related to key business issues and focus on solving real-world challenges.
Hemal Shah, Executive Director and APJ CIO, Dell India, said, “We are delighted to partner with Shiv Nadar University. The labs are a platform for us to collaborate with the faculty, and provide practical learning experiences for students on cutting-edge technology projects. Businesses today evolve at a rapid pace and technology acts as a catalyst in helping businesses race ahead. It is, therefore, critical to help develop our talent pool to make them future ready. We hope to open up new channels of communication and collaboration to impart quality education.”
Dr. Rupamanjari Ghosh, Vice Chancellor, Shiv Nadar University said, “Our partnership with Dell is built on academia-industry complementarity, and hence is already on its way to a grand success! Education at the University is inherently aligned with the business world. Our students ‘learn by doing’, and develop the essential skill of creative problem-solving.”
“The Dell labs will enable our students to undertake original research in focused industry-relevant projects at the University. Starting with our Department of Computer Science and Engineering, and the Big Data Analytics Center, I am sure this partnership will further enhance the research and training that are already being undertaken at the University.”, Dr Ghosh said.
Dr. Ghosh further added, “I am excited at the prospect, which will of course be mutually beneficial to our two institutions, but will also be a small but significant step towards bringing the industry and the academia closer in our country.”
Dell believes that industry-academia partnerships such as this are instrumental in encouraging students to push the frontiers of technology and research. The company has been recruiting students from the Shiv Nadar University and looks to help them build their business knowledge.
