NEW DELHI/ SINGHITARAI (India CSR): In a significant step toward rural development and social upliftment, Vedanta Group, through its flagship Project Nand Ghar, is set to establish 100 state-of-the-art Nand Ghars in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. This initiative, aimed at enhancing child education, nutrition, healthcare, and women’s empowerment, is being implemented in collaboration with the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF) and the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of Sakti district.

These 100 Nand Ghars will be created by upgrading existing brownfield Anganwadis, modernizing them into smart, sustainable, and resourceful learning centers. The initiative is being supported by Vedanta Ltd. Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP), an under-construction 1,200 MW thermal power project in Singhitarai, ensuring long-term impact in the region.

A Vision for Holistic Child and Women Development

With a strong focus on community development, the Nand Ghar initiative aligns with Vedanta’s commitment to social responsibility, particularly in transforming traditional Anganwadi centers into modern, technology-driven learning spaces. These upgraded centers will offer:

  • Smart classrooms with digital learning tools to enhance early childhood education
  • Safe and hygienic infrastructure, including clean drinking water and sanitation facilities
  • Nutritious meals for children, pregnant, and lactating mothers to combat malnutrition
  • Regular health check-ups, immunization drives, and wellness programs
  • Skill development training and financial inclusion programs for empowering rural women

Government Endorsement and Stakeholder Collaboration

Speaking about the project’s impact, Sudhakar Bodle, District Women and Child Development Officer, Sakti, expressed gratitude for Vedanta’s intervention:

“This initiative will redefine early childhood education and women’s empowerment in our district. The Nand Ghars will not only provide better learning environments for children but also create opportunities for women to develop skills, gain financial independence, and improve their overall well-being.”

Vedanta’s Commitment to Nation-Building

Highlighting Vedanta’s long-term vision, Shashi Arora, CEO of Nand Ghar, stated:

“We are grateful to the Government of Chhattisgarh and the WCD Department of Sakti for partnering with us in this transformational journey. With over 7,000 Nand Ghars operational across 15 states, we have already impacted more than 5,00,000 children and women. Our mission is to revolutionize childcare, nutrition, and skill development to create self-sustaining communities.”

Driving Sustainable Development in Sakti District

On the role of Vedanta Ltd. Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP) in supporting this initiative, Chief Operating Officer, Devendra Kumar Patel, remarked:

“Under the visionary leadership of Mr. Anil Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Group, we are investing in large-scale social development programs to ensure meaningful benefits for underserved communities. These 100 Nand Ghars in Sakti district will become a beacon of growth, education, and empowerment for the region.”

Nand Ghar: A Model for Inclusive Growth

Established in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Project Nand Ghar aims to empower 7 crore children and 2 crore women across India’s 13.7 lakh Anganwadis. In Chhattisgarh alone, 262 Nand Ghars are already operational, with many more in the pipeline.

By integrating education, nutrition, healthcare, and skill development, the initiative is ensuring that rural India is not left behind in the country’s growth story.

A Sustainable Future for Rural Communities

Each Nand Ghar is built with sustainability at its core, featuring solar power, smart technology, and eco-friendly infrastructure to ensure long-term viability. These centers serve as a hub for holistic child development and women’s empowerment, offering:

  • Smart e-learning modules and interactive classrooms
  • Daily nutritious meals to fight malnutrition
  • Healthcare services, including immunization and health check-ups
  • Skill-building workshops and microfinance support for women entrepreneurs

Building a Brighter Tomorrow for Chhattisgarh

Vedanta’s Project Nand Ghar is more than just a CSR initiative—it is a catalyst for change. By fostering education, health, and women’s empowerment, these centers will reshape the future of thousands of families in Sakti district, creating a self-reliant and progressive rural India.
