NEW DELHI/ SINGHITARAI (India CSR): In a significant step toward rural development and social upliftment, Vedanta Group, through its flagship Project Nand Ghar, is set to establish 100 state-of-the-art Nand Ghars in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. This initiative, aimed at enhancing child education, nutrition, healthcare, and women’s empowerment, is being implemented in collaboration with the Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF) and the Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of Sakti district.
These 100 Nand Ghars will be created by upgrading existing brownfield Anganwadis, modernizing them into smart, sustainable, and resourceful learning centers. The initiative is being supported by Vedanta Ltd. Chhattisgarh Thermal Power Plant (VLCTPP), an under-construction 1,200 MW thermal power project in Singhitarai, ensuring long-term impact in the region.
A Vision for Holistic Child and Women Development
With a strong focus on community development, the Nand Ghar initiative aligns with Vedanta’s commitment to social responsibility, particularly in transforming traditional Anganwadi centers into modern, technology-driven learning spaces. These upgraded centers will offer:
- Smart classrooms with digital learning tools to enhance early childhood education
- Safe and hygienic infrastructure, including clean drinking water and sanitation facilities
- Nutritious meals for children, pregnant, and lactating mothers to combat malnutrition
- Regular health check-ups, immunization drives, and wellness programs
- Skill development training and financial inclusion programs for empowering rural women
Government Endorsement and Stakeholder Collaboration
Speaking about the project’s impact, Sudhakar Bodle, District Women and Child Development Officer, Sakti, expressed gratitude for Vedanta’s intervention:

The Nand Ghars will not only provide better learning environments for children but also create opportunities for women to develop skills, gain financial independence, and improve their overall well-being.”

Established in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Project Nand Ghar aims to empower 7 crore children and 2 crore women across India’s 13.7 lakh Anganwadis. In Chhattisgarh alone, 262 Nand Ghars are already operational, with many more in the pipeline.
By integrating education, nutrition, healthcare, and skill development, the initiative is ensuring that rural India is not left behind in the country’s growth story.
