TSF Jamadoba is also committed to empowering women farmers and improving agricultural practices with the adoption of new techniques and technologies.
Dhanbad: The Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) has started a new initiative to empower women farmers and promote farming by distributing 21 agricultural machines among 21 SHGs/Farmers groups, comprising of 267 women. Seventy-five percent of the cost of these machines was borne by the Foundation and the remaining 25 percent was paid by the women SHGs.
Mayank Shekhar, chief of Jamadobha group, Jharia Division said that to make agriculture profitable and workable, TSF has focused on promoting mechanization in the selected area. This technological support will help to ensure the availability of irrigational facilities throughout the year so that agriculture can become the primary source of livelihood.
“TSF Jamadoba is also committed to empowering women farmers and improving agricultural practices with the adoption of new techniques and technologies. It has been working intensively on increasing the female workforce in the agricultural sector,” he added.
Jamadoba group chief said that TSF has been providing continuous support for the promotion of alternative livelihood sources in the different districts of Jharkhand, especially in the areas where local people are largely engaged in mining and related occupations.
“However owing to the uncertain nature of local mining operations, it becomes difficult to accommodate employment requirements to all. So as an alternative livelihood source, TSF is focusing on Agriculture, as it has the capacity to accumulate the maximum number of people,” he added.
