PUNE (India CSR): Marking National Science Day, SLB Pune in partnership with Thinksharp Foundation proudly inaugurated STEM on Wheels, a mobile science laboratory initiative aimed at expanding access to quality STEM education for students with a focus on girls in infrastructure-constrained local schools.

The initiative was formally inaugurated by SLB leadership team. The event was graced by the board of directors, Global Head & IT Centers Director Abuzar Manager, STSI Manager Amit Yadav, PuTC Manager Jayesh Prajapati, Finance Head Dheeraj Gupta and visiting leaders Global Manufacturing and TLM Director Ives Loretz and Global Supply HR Manager Ana Maria Mora Cano. This initiative is closely driven by SLB Pune CSR team and employees under the leadership of CSR Head Riya Khanduri underscoring the strong commitment to inclusive education and community upliftment and development.

Bridging Infrastructure Gaps in STEM Education

Across many local schools, the absence of functional science laboratories and digital resources limits student’s exposure to hands-on learning. This gap disproportionately impacts girls, who often face additional social and systemic barriers in pursuing STEM pathways.

STEM on Wheels addresses this challenge by delivering a fully equipped mobile science lab directly to schools. The initiative will reach 12 schools and affect approximately 1,200 students in its first phase. SLB takes the laboratory education to students;this program ensures that infrastructure limitations do not restrict opportunity.

The mobile lab offers:

  • Curriculum-aligned hands-on science experiments
  • Introductory robotics and coding modules
  • Interactive demonstrations
  • Facilitated learning sessions
  • STEM career awareness interactions

SLB’s Commitment to Inclusive Growth

Speaking at the inauguration, leadership reiterated the organization’s belief that access to quality education is foundational to long-term social and economic progress. The presence of senior leadership and board members highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative within the company’s CSR framework. The initiative aligns with broader national priorities around scientific innovation and contributes to global Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), including Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), and Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure (SDG 9).

Building Aspiration, Not Just Access

Beyond providing equipment, STEM on Wheels aims to spark curiosity, build confidence, and expand aspirations among students in underserved communities. Early exposure to practical science and technology plays a critical role in shaping academic choices and future careers. As the mobile lab begins its journey across schools, it carries more than scientific tools it carries opportunity, inspiration, and the promise of a more inclusive future in STEM. SLB values of #peoplefirst, #technology and #performance– STEM on wheels.
