India: Upasana Kamineni Konidela, a well-known figure and advocate for social causes, has received a meaningful gift from the Prajwala Foundation, a distinguished non-governmental organization dedicated to protecting human rights and combating sex trafficking and sex crimes. The foundation, which rescues, rehabilitates, and reintegrates survivors of sex trafficking, presented Upasana with a beautifully handcrafted cradle made of up-cycled pinewood. The cradle was meticulously prepared by brave women carpenters who are themselves survivors of sex trafficking.
Upasana Kamineni Konidela has been actively supporting the Prajwala Foundation since 2018 and shares a deep bond with the young women who consider her their elder sister and a pillar of support during their difficult times. The handcrafted cradle holds great significance as it symbolizes the strength, resilience, and hope that reside within each individual. It represents the journey of transformation and self-respect that Upasana wishes to impart to her child from birth.
Expressing her gratitude for this extraordinary gift, Upasana Kamineni Konidela said, “I am truly humbled and honored to receive this heartfelt gift from the incredible young women of Prajwala. This handcrafted cradle carries immense significance, symbolizing the strength and hope that define each one of us. It represents a journey of transformation and self-respect that I want my child to be exposed to from the very beginning.”
The Prajwala Foundation, based in Hyderabad and led by Indian social activist Sunitha Krishnan, has been at the forefront of combating sex trafficking in India. Sunitha Krishnan, a survivor of gang rape herself, has received numerous accolades for her fearless and consistent efforts, including the prestigious Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in 2016.
