CSR : K.C. Mahindra Scholarship fund value increased to Rs. 2.92 cr this year

MUMBAI: The K.C. Mahindra Education Trust (KCMET) said that 82 candidates out of the 1066 applicants have received scholarships as a part of K. C. Mahindra Scholarships for Post Graduate Studies Abroad.

Aimed at enabling higher education for the brightest and best students in India, this year it has marked a 45% increase in awardees, leading to an increase in the value of the scholarships awarded to Rs. 2.92 crores.

The shortlisted candidates included 23 students who had graduated from the IITs, and the balance were from other premier educational institutes including BITS Pilani, SRCC, the National Law Schools, Symbiosis, St. Xaviers, Sir JJ College of Architecture and NID.

The candidates had secured admission to the highest-ranking universities overseas such as Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, Carnegie Mellon, UC Berkeley, Pennsylvania, Oxford, LSE & Cambridge. The scholars will be pursuing their post-graduation in subjects ranging from Computer Science, Engineering, MBA, Law, Public Policy and Economics.

Following the two days of intense interviews, Keshub Mahindra, Chairman – K. C. Mahindra Education Trust & Chairman Emeritus – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said “Education is the best weapon to drive positive change, and each year it is our endeavour to aid the brightest and the best minds from the country in this direction. I am positive that the students will carve their niche and contribute towards a better tomorrow by giving back to the nation.”

Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group added, “It’s heartening to see the consistent rise in quality and number of applications we are receiving year-on-year for the scholarships. What is more exciting is the distinctiveness of every application which is truly inspiring and doesn’t cease to amaze me every time. I hope that the candidates make the best use of this opportunity to shine and put India on the global map in diverse and significant ways.”

This was the very first scholarship program set up at the Trust by the founder, Mr. K C Mahindra, and it continues to offer bright Indian students the possibility of pursuing their higher education at reputed universities abroad.

The selection committee panel comprised of eminent leaders such as Keshub Mahindra, Chairman Emeritus, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, Bharat Doshi, Chairman, Mahindra Intertrade Ltd., Ulhas Yargop, Group President – IT Sector, Group CTO & Member of the Group Executive Board, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Dr. (Mrs.) Indu Shahani, Founding Dean – Indian School of Management & Entrepreneurship (ISME) & Chairperson at The Indian School of Design & Innovation, Ranjan Pant, CEO Advisor, Global Strategy Management Consultant & Change Management Expert and Aishwariya Ramakrishnan, EA to the Chairman, Mahindra Group who interviewed the shortlisted candidates over two days, recommended that all 82 candidates who attended the interviews will be awarded the K. C. Mahindra Scholarship for Post Graduate Studies Abroad.
