NEW DELHI (India CSR): In the wake of severe flooding in Assam, Habitat for Humanity India has stepped up to provide critical support to affected families. Through its disaster response initiative, the organization has distributed Emergency Shelter Kits (ESKs) to 329 families across Barpeta and Dhubri districts. This humanitarian effort, backed by funding from Texas Instruments (TI) India, is helping families restore stability and security in their lives.
Rebuilding Lives After the Floods
The devastating floods caused by Cyclone Remal left thousands of families displaced, damaging homes, livelihoods, and essential infrastructure. Many families were left without adequate shelter, forcing them to live in makeshift conditions.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Habitat for Humanity India collaborated with local authorities, community leaders, and volunteers to identify the most vulnerable households—including single women-led families, elderly individuals, and marginalized communities—to ensure they receive much-needed assistance.
“The shelter kit has been of great help to us. We did not have the means to buy them on our own. We used the tarpaulin sheet to protect our livestock during the rain and the wire and pliers to repair the bamboo walls of our home. Additionally, my son Deepak uses the handsaw as he works as a carpenter,” shared Priyabala Mondal, a resident of Mandia block in Barpeta district.

What’s Inside the Emergency Shelter Kits?
Each Emergency Shelter Kit was designed to help families repair their homes and create safer living spaces. The kits contained critical materials such as:
✔ Tarpaulin sheets for temporary roofing and protection
✔ Ropes, tie wires, and plastic sheets to secure damaged structures
✔ Pliers, claw hammers, nails, and washers for essential repairs
✔ Hoes and handsaws to rebuild and reinforce bamboo walls and roofs
These kits have provided immediate relief and stability, ensuring that affected families can safely remain in their homes while working toward permanent reconstruction.
Strengthening Communities with Corporate Support
Texas Instruments India, a long-time supporter of community resilience and disaster recovery, played a key role in this initiative.
“We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity India and its efforts to help flood-affected families,” said Aditya Salian, CSR Manager, Texas Instruments India. “Our focus is on fostering resilience and sustainability, and these Emergency Shelter Kits are a crucial first step in helping families rebuild their homes and their futures.”
A Pathway to Permanent Recovery
Habitat for Humanity India follows a “Pathways to Permanence” approach, ensuring that disaster-affected families move from emergency relief to long-term housing solutions in incremental stages.
Anand Kumar Bolimera, National Director of Habitat for Humanity India, emphasized the significance of the initiative:
“Our goal through this initiative was to support families devastated by the floods. These shelter kits are more than just tools—they represent hope, dignity, and a step toward rebuilding lives. With the support of Texas Instruments India, we are helping families regain stability and move toward permanent housing solutions.”
Commitment to Disaster Relief and Recovery
For over three decades, Habitat for Humanity India has been at the forefront of disaster response and community rebuilding efforts. Their commitment to providing safe, decent, and affordable housing continues to transform thousands of lives across the country.
With initiatives like these, corporate partnerships and humanitarian efforts are bridging the gap between immediate relief and long-term rehabilitation, ensuring that families in crisis can rebuild their homes—and their futures—with dignity and security.
