CSR initiatives also strengthen healthcare infrastructure and promote environmental sustainability
CHENNAI (India CSR): BYD India Private Limited, a subsidiary of BYD, the world’s No. 1 New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has announced the successful implementation of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on strengthening education, healthcare and environmental sustainability in Tamil Nadu. Implemented in partnership with FEEED NGO, the initiatives include the inauguration of the School Infrastructure Development Project at the Government Panchayat Union Primary School, Keevalur Village, Sriperumbudur; support for healthcare infrastructure at Uthiramerum Government Hospital in Kancheepuram district through the provision of advanced hospital equipment, and a plantation drive to promote greener communities.
The initiatives reflect BYD India’s commitment to creating long-term social impact by investing in essential community infrastructure that improves quality of life and contributes to sustainable development.
As part of its education-focused initiatives, BYD India will support the development of a government school by improving overall campus infrastructure and facilities, and by providing learning tools and guidance. The interventions are designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and the quality of the learning environment, contributing to a more stable and supportive space for students and educators alike. The initiative reflects BYD’s belief that strong foundational infrastructure plays a critical role in enabling better educational outcomes.
The school will provide a brighter, safer and more conducive environment for learning, directly benefiting approximately 200 students while also creating long-term value for future generations who will study at the institution. This upgraded structure includes an enhanced working environment for teachers through redesigned classrooms, canteen, and improved teaching spaces. These enhancements are carried out with the objective of enabling better classroom engagement, improved learning outcomes and greater motivation among teachers.
Reinforces BYD India’s commitment to building stronger communities through sustainable development
Beyond education, BYD India’s CSR programme has also strengthened healthcare infrastructure in Kancheepuram district. In the healthcare space, BYD India has provided advanced hospital beds to support improved treatment and recovery conditions at the Uthiramerur Government Hospital in Kanchipuram. The intervention is intended to assist healthcare professionals in delivering enhanced care while improving comfort and safety for patients.
Complementing these initiatives, BYD India also undertook a plantation drive in collaboration with FEEED NGO, contributing to greener community spaces and reinforcing the company’s broader sustainability philosophy. The initiative reflects BYD’s commitment to environmental stewardship by promoting biodiversity and creating healthier surroundings for future generations.
Speaking on the initiatives, Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles (EPV) Business at BYD India, said, “At BYD, sustainability goes beyond clean mobility—it extends to creating meaningful and lasting impact within the communities we serve. Education, healthcare and environmental stewardship are fundamental pillars of a stronger society. We are pleased to play a role in shaping young minds by enabling an enhanced, modern educational space while simultaneously supporting healthcare infrastructure and promoting sustainability in the region. We remain committed to delivering practical interventions that create long-term social value and empower communities.”
The School Infrastructure Development Project forms part of BYD India’s broader CSR programme focused on strengthening education, healthcare and community infrastructure through need-based interventions. The company continues to work closely with implementation partners and local stakeholders to ensure projects are executed efficiently and deliver measurable long-term outcomes.
The initiative aligns with BYD’s global sustainability philosophy of “Technological Innovations for a Better Life,” extending the company’s commitment beyond electric mobility to responsible social development and community empowerment.
Globally, BYD has sold over 16.5 million New Energy Vehicles, contributing to the reduction of more than 144 billion kilograms of CO2 emissions, equivalent to what nearly 2.4 billion trees would absorb over one year. The company continues to strengthen its global leadership in sustainable mobility while driving positive environmental and social impact.
As BYD India continues to expand its presence in the country, the company remains committed to advancing sustainable mobility while investing in initiatives that improve the lives of communities and contribute to India’s long-term development.
