CSR: Ambuja Cements Supports Rural Students to Shine in International Karate and Athletics

MAHARASHTRA (India CSR): In a remarkable display of dedication, discipline, and perseverance, 14 students from Chandrapur, Maharashtra, have achieved international recognition in karate and athletics, thanks to the unwavering support of Ambuja Cements. Through its sports-focused Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the company is nurturing young talent in rural schools, equipping students with essential skills in physical fitness and competitive sports.

At the 2024 International Karate Championships in Hyderabad, students from Ambuja-supported ZP Upper Primary School, Upparwahi, Chandrapur, secured one Gold, five Silver, and seven Bronze medals, bringing pride to their school and community. Additionally, seventh-grader Anushka Mandavkar from Nadgaon School advanced to the state level in 800m running, following her impressive second-place finish in the 300m event in Nagpur.

Transforming Rural Sports Education Through CSR

Ambuja Cements has been instrumental in bridging the gap between rural students and professional sports training. What began as a pilot initiative in 10 schools in Darlaghat, Himachal Pradesh, has now expanded to 15 schools in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, providing students with structured physical training, expert coaching, and opportunities to compete at national and international levels.

The core objectives of the program include:

  • Enhancing students’ endurance, agility, strength, and speed
  • Encouraging participation in national and international sports competitions
  • Boosting self-confidence, discipline, and teamwork among students
  • Improving school attendance through structured physical activities

Remarkable Improvement in Student Fitness and Performance

Since its inception in 2018, Ambuja Cements’ sports program has led to significant improvements in student fitness levels. According to a 2023 assessment conducted by ELMS Sports Foundation, students participating in the initiative have shown:

  • Over 70% improvement in endurance, agility, and core strength
  • Higher participation in state and national-level competitions
  • Increased school engagement and a more disciplined learning environment

By integrating sports with academics, Ambuja Cements is ensuring a holistic development approach where students can excel both mentally and physically.

Creating Future Champions Through Strategic Partnerships

Ambuja Cements is collaborating with local schools, sports organizations, and government bodies to create a sustainable sports ecosystem. The initiative not only trains young athletes but also provides proper infrastructure, mentorship, and competitive exposure, ensuring that every child—regardless of background—gets a fair chance to develop their potential.

“Sports instill resilience, focus, and teamwork—qualities that shape young minds into future leaders. Our commitment to supporting rural students goes beyond education; we aim to provide them with life-changing opportunities through sports,” said an Ambuja Cements spokesperson.

A Future of Possibilities for Rural Talent

With continued support from Ambuja Cements, students from remote regions of Maharashtra are stepping onto global sports platforms, proving that talent and hard work can overcome any barriers. By fostering physical literacy, inclusivity, and excellence, the company is laying the foundation for future champions, ensuring long-term growth and empowerment for young athletes across India.
