Bank extends scholarship support, promotes girl-child welfare and adopts a village for inclusive development
KOLKATA (India CSR): Canara Bank’s Kolkata Circle marked the 80th Independence Day with a series of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on education, girl-child welfare and rural development. The programme was graced by Binod Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal. The occasion reflected the Bank’s effort to connect the spirit of Independence Day with meaningful support for underserved communities.
Supporting Education for Deserving Students
As part of the celebrations, Canara Bank extended scholarship assistance to deserving students from economically disadvantaged families. The support is aimed at helping students continue their education and reducing financial barriers that often affect learning opportunities. The initiative underlines the importance of education in building self-reliant individuals and stronger communities. By supporting students in need, the Bank seeks to contribute to a more inclusive future.
Promoting Safe Learning Spaces for Girls
Canara Bank also supported the construction of girls’ toilets in rural schools. Access to safe and hygienic sanitation facilities is an important factor in encouraging regular school attendance among girl students. The initiative is expected to improve the school environment and strengthen efforts towards girl-child education, dignity and well-being in rural areas.
Village Adoption for Rural Development
In another key initiative, the Bank adopted a village to support the creation of basic amenities and promote overall rural development. The adoption programme is intended to address local development needs and improve the quality of life of residents. The initiative reflects Canara Bank’s approach of supporting development at the grassroots level through community-focused interventions.
Commitment to Inclusive Nation-Building
The CSR initiatives undertaken by Canara Bank Kolkata Circle reaffirm the institution’s commitment to education, empowerment, inclusive growth and nation-building. By focusing on students, girls and rural communities, the Bank continues to contribute towards a more equitable and developed India.
