Ahmedabad Circle awards ₹37.68 lakh to 942 beneficiaries under Dr. Ambedkar Vidya Jyothi Scholarship Scheme
AHMEDABAD (India CSR): Canara Bank has strengthened its commitment to financial inclusion, girls’ education and social empowerment through its flagship Canara Bank Dr. Ambedkar Vidya Jyothi Scholarship Scheme FY 2026–27. A Mega Scholarship Distribution Event was organised by the Financial Inclusion Section at Circle Office, Ahmedabad. The programme was chaired by Ranjeet Kumar Jha, General Manager and Circle Head, Canara Bank Ahmedabad. Amresh Ranjan, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Ahmedabad, attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Students from nearby schools attended the programme along with their parents and teachers. On the occasion, national flags were also distributed among students, parents and teachers, adding a patriotic spirit to the scholarship distribution programme.
₹37.68 Lakh Awarded to 942 Girl Students in Ahmedabad
Marking the 80th Independence Day celebrations, Canara Bank’s Ahmedabad Circle awarded scholarships to 942 meritorious SC/ST girl students. The beneficiaries were supported through the Bank’s 157 rural, semi-urban and urban branches under Circle Office Ahmedabad. A total scholarship amount of Rs. 37.68 lakh was credited directly to the accounts of eligible girl students. The support is expected to help students continue their education and reduce financial barriers faced by families from economically vulnerable communities.
Nationwide Reach Across 7,800 Canara Bank Branches
At the national level, Canara Bank has extended scholarship assistance to 47,232 meritorious SC/ST girl students during FY 2026–27. The Bank disbursed a total of Rs. 18.89 crore through its network of around 7,800 branches across the country. The scholarship scheme is designed to encourage academic achievement among girl students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. It also aims to promote educational continuity, confidence and equal opportunity for young learners.
Education as a Tool of Empowerment
The Dr. Ambedkar Vidya Jyothi Scholarship Scheme reflects Canara Bank’s larger focus on inclusive development. By supporting meritorious girls from SC/ST communities, the Bank seeks to create opportunities for education-led progress and long-term social mobility. The initiative underlines the role of financial institutions in supporting national priorities such as education, gender inclusion and empowerment of historically disadvantaged communities.
